Finally the list of best golf resorts in Europe in 2017 is out. When we launched this list in 2016 it immediately became our best read blog post of the year. We also received a lot of input and positive feedback from golfers. It has taken quite a lot of work, but we hope the list inspires you to visit some great or unknown golf resorts!
This blog post is also a teaser for our upcoming Golfers’ Choice 2017 rankings which will officially be announced at the end of March or beginning of April.
The best golf resorts ranking is based on the following elements:
rating of the golf club on Leadingcourses.com (this must be an active rating, so enough reviews to be reliable)
rating of the resort or hotel on Booking.com (this must also be an active rating, so enough reviews to be reliable)
the official hotel or resort must be located next to the golf course or must be located on the premises
The overall rank is 50% based on the Booking.com rating concerning the resort or hotel itself and 50% based on the rating of the golf club overall (including the courses, facilities, etc.) on Leadingcourses.com.
Finca Cortesin is the best golf resort in 2017
Finca Cortesin
Based on the criteria mentioned above, the best golf resort in Europe in 2017 is Finca Cortesin. According to us, this is well deserved. We have visited Finca Cortesin and can only agree with other golfers. From the start they have invested in quality and service and this has paid off. The same can be said for Monte Rei Golf and Country Club, they are this year’s runner up. Both of these golf resorts are not cheap to play or to stay, but you will certainly get value for money. The number one of 2016, Rockliffe Hall Hotel Golf & Spa has dropped two places and is now number three on the list.
Royal Dornoch Golf Club
If you really care about the quality of the golf club, then you should head to Royal County Down or to Royal Dornoch Golf Club. We know both the hotels are not officially tied to the club, but as both hotels are almost located on the 1st tee we made an exception. The same goes for Old Course Hotel St Andrews.
If you only care about a good resort, then still Finca Cortesin is the place to go. Their hotel received a whopping 9,5 (based on 54 reviews).
Spain, a real golf destination, has the most resorts in the top 100 best golf resorts, seventeen in total. England is second, with fifteen golf resorts making the list. Portugal is third with thirteen golf resorts that made the list.
Top 100 golf resorts in Europe
Below the list of best resorts in 2017 in Europe is shown. You can use the filters or search bar to explore the list. If a golf resort is missing this might be because the resort did not have enough reviews or did not have a rating high enough to make it to the top 100 list. But, feel free to comment below this article.
Note: This list was finalized on 24th of Feb 2017. So, the ratings can and will change with time.
Obviously the list is not complete, resorts not affiliated with Booking.com are not taken into account. Also, resorts who have not been rated enough are not taken into account. But, it’s a great starting point and all the resorts below can be booked via Leadingcourses.com site which is very convenient!
If you have any additions or suggestion to complete this list of top 100 best golf resorts, then please share them with us! Just comment on this post!
Perhaps you did not know this, but if you care more about the hotel than the golf course itself, then you can visit our hotel section. There you will find the best hotels, located near a golf course. Check out our hotel website.
Hi Clive, thanks for commenting. This list is a combination of the resort and the course, according to other golfers. So, the best golf resort does not have to have the best golf course. That is correct. Then you should head to County Down or Royal Dornoch.
Hi Anne Kim, I assume you refer to the Golfers’ Choice rankings? It’s because the lists are based on different elements and the overall set is different. For example, not all golf clubs are also a golf resort (like the Haagsche).
So, the list for best golf resorts is a subset of all golf clubs (only golf resorts are in this ranking) and it takes into account the rating of the golf club and the rating for its resort or hotel.
The Golfers’ Choice rankings takes every golf club into account and this ranking is not based on the ranking given for the resort, but only on the golf club, overall impression, its facilities, level of maintenance, hospitality and obviously the course(s).
With a 8,2 for Lauswolt as a golf club, they made it to rank 16 in the GCA in the Netherlands.

Zeker! Volgend jaar maken we weer een mooie nieuwe lijst 😉 En, allemaal transparant en volledig na te lezen/verifiëren. Want we gebruiken de ratings van onze site en die van Booking.com. Eerlijker kan het denk ik niet.

Best golf resort NOT possibly best golf courses
Hi Clive, thanks for commenting. This list is a combination of the resort and the course, according to other golfers. So, the best golf resort does not have to have the best golf course. That is correct. Then you should head to County Down or Royal Dornoch.

How is it possible that number 34 (first Dutch golfresort on the list) is not the first on the list of The Netherlands?
