Review by Leonard of Golfclub Schloss Finkenstein

Finkenstein is a hospitable members club in the south of Austria close to Slovenian border. The Clubhouse is situated on top of a hill and has some very nice rooms to stay in. The course it self is quite flat on the front nine and some holes are a bit similar. Wide fairways, two bunkers next to the green and next... The back nine is a lot more interesting especially the finishing 3 holes. The 16th is a 200 meter downhill par 3 with trees on both sides. Hole 17 has an elevated tee shot with water on the left and trees on the right only the perfect tee-shot will leave you a 100 meter steep uphill approach to the green. Finally 18 is a huge dogleg left par 5 with water all along the left side. Several high risk options are possible and even following the fairway is not an easy par. This course is an excellent resort course for people who just want to have a nice uncomplicated day of golf, only the last 3 holes make you wish for more holes like that. The food in the clubhouse is very nice and local and the staff is super friendly. Definitely a place to come back to.
