Markus4Mueller review

The GC Munster is a British built 9 hole course,5278m in length, PAR 70 and of CR 68,2 / Slope 125. There is a roofed driving range (3 spaced under roof,12 spaces open) next to the 9th hole (max. 200m) and a very small chipping area but a large putting green on the other side of fairway #9. Two Training bunkers are placed around the chipping spot. The clubhouse is a tiny, very nice old fashioned half-timbered-house, typically for lower saxony area. Restaurant offer small menu and is always worth to visit for coffee and cakes. However: Take care about opening hours and make sure, there is still some food left when you return. There wind protected terrace offers a view on green number 9. The course itself is very unique: It is surrounded by the military training area of German Army and its NATO partners. The way to the course runs through the restricted area but it is open to the public at all times. You might observe a tank at the horizon or listen to artillery life firing while pitching. However most of the time the area is very, very quiet and peaceful, nature is taking a rest at Munster GC. The course is embedded in a typical heatherlands, running through bushes and little tree area, very sandy soil, flat but full of bunker situation. The course is built for beginners. Open terrain is often self-explaining; bunkers can be seen early but forces the golfer to be very accurate. Greens are slightly above average but fast. There are no doglegs but fairways get very small due to well situated bunkers and trees. The out of bounce indicators are often the beginning of the military training area – a lost ball is gone forever. The staff is extremely helpful, you´ll find lockers and showers at the buildings corner. The members are often former military NCO and officers, lots of british players around. Reservation is nearly not necessary at all times. The course is worth the money to play and return a second time. It is a very peaceful area you wouldn´t expect with all the military units around.
