It doesn’t get more British than this. A privilege to play this course. The club is packed with tradition. Respect tradition and you’ll have a good time. Pro: -A lot of history. -Ian Fleming (James Bond) was a member here. He almost became the captain of the club. You could say that he died on this golf course. He had a heart attack on the 14th green and died later in the hospital. -Very nice looking shelter huts with thatched roofs on the golf course. -The maintenance is fantastic. -Great pot bunkers. -Fantastic views on the sea. -True links course (even though the layout is a bit criss-cross and not 9 out 9 in). -I love the lay-out with blind shots and great green complexes. -The course is pure and original. The natural wasteland areas add to that. -Lovely undulating fairways. -Great caddies! Con: -Practice facilities are limited. -Even though the clubhouse has a lot of history, it is not an impressive building. Not on the outside, nor on the inside. -Because THE OPEN will be here next year, we had to play from matts to preserve the fairways. Too bad the matts are very bad. They look like the fake grass matts people use to wipe dirt from their shoes. Almost impossible to play a good shot from them. It did take away a lot from the experience. -The clubhouse (and the snackbar) were closed by the time we ended our round of golf. -The members are top priority. Visitors receive a 2nd class treatment.
