About Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club
Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club was founded in 1906 and is known for the challenge it poses for both amateurs and professional golfers.
Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club began hosting professional events as early as 1917, when J. H Taylor, Ted Ray and James Braid played an exhibition match to raise funds for the war effort to help wounded soldiers.
This was the beginning of a long association with the professional game. The Club hosted many professional tournaments including the Ryder Cup in 1933 and 1937.

The course at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club measures 6803 yards (6220 meters) from the back tees and winds its way amongst sand hills and dunes.
The course is a magnificent test of golf, especially with the sea breeze and profusion of heather and gorse combining to provide a challenging and immensely enjoyable day.

Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club
Southport & Ainsdale hosted the 1933 and 1937 Ryder Cup matches and also hosted many more amateur events and professional competitions in the past. Compared to its immediate neighbour Hillside GC it doesn't have the big dunes but the golf is better at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club. I thoroughly enjoyed the game there.

S & A may often be missed by those making a trip to England’s golf coast because it doesn’t have the acclaim of Royal Birkdale, Hillside or Formby.
But this would be a mistake as it definitely deserves its place among them.
