A lovely picturesque heathland course. Great quality greens and plenty of interesting holes. The par 3s are all very testing with varying lengths. Not a long course but very punishing if you miss the fairway. Lots of thick heather lining the fairways.

Despite the many elements which combine to make the course better than its sum parts, it is the bunkering which is New Zealand’s standout feature. It has long been my belief that Walton Heath’s bunkers are the best in the heathlands. According to Patric Dickinson “They are curiously, aggressively, artificial looking. ” While not nearly as austere as Walton’s Heath’s pits,…

I had a great round of golf at the exquisite New Zealand Golf Club. After a tasty breakfast roll and strong coffee, we were ready to brace for the chilly January morning conditions. Even though the course had the appearance of being frozen solid, it was surprisingly soft. Quick greens and soft bunkers (of which I found a few) were a delight. I will definitely be returning…

Entering the clubhouse is as if going back in time 100 years. But in a good way. We were warmly welcomed and even got a small tour when we arrived. The course is very well maintained and the heather alongside many of the fairways was friendly enough to be able to find your ball. Getting back to the fairway did require a modest approach or you would find yourself in more t…

New Zealand was founded by a family who had property in the New Zealand in the Southern Hemisphere, it used to be a sheep farm and was converted in a golf course in 1895. The course is ofte overlooked in the Trophy Course studded county of Surrey mainly because it has a par 68. A lot of people think it is a short course, but with only one par 5 and a 430 yard first hole a…

New Zealand Golf Club is understated and brilliant in equal measure, and that is just how the membership like it. The club was famously the home club of writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and you don’t have to be a detective to see what he saw in the place. The clubhouse has the most wonderfully serene and historically rich atmosphere and we found it the perfect place to wh…

Every hole is on its own with lots of heather and tree lined fairways. Not the longest but you have to be straight, reasonably long and hit he ball in the air or you are struggling for the rest of the hole. Friendly clubhouse with the best golf club food I have had and a real hidden gem. Up there with the very best in Surrey. Friendly pro with a well stocked shop. Everyon…

New Zealand Artisans Golf Club
New Zealand Golf Club is one of the least heralded golf courses on the Surrey sandbelt yet it is one of the most fascinating and maximises its relatively flat terrain to great effect. I suspect The Club are quite happy that their course often goes under the radar and certainly doesn’t seek the attention that others crave. Unlike at Swinley Forest, The Berkshire, Sunning…
