Yes the setting is very interesting and on a few occasions quite impressive so definitely a big thumbs up for making a proper golf course at such location... good proof that golf courses can be built almost everywhere. I have played many mountain golf courses with awkward fairways and landing areas but this one is for sure one of the best. However with an exception of a few very nice holes and maybe 2-3 nice views of the valley there is nothing extra spectacular about this place. And if this is a representation of Austrian golf as being #1 golf course in Austria than I actually fell sorry for other Austrian golf courses. They actually have quite a few great golf courses with better layouts so I think this one has no place in Top 5 and it is actually humiliation for some of them. If however the scenery is more important to you than golf course itself you will probably disagree with me. Par 3's are nice but nothing special and if you really like downhill Par-3's than go play St. Vigil Seis in Italy - same goes for breathtaking views and spectacularity of the holes. So why is St. Vigil Seis not #1 in Italy... it is actually not even close to being #1! My favorite holes are dogleg-right Par-4 5th, downhill Par-4 11th, uphill dogleg-left Par-5 15th is also very nice and great risk and reward hole. Another good one is downhill Par-4 17th with beautiful view of the green below and Adamstal area. A buggy is a must and if you are not a shot shaper and your shots are not very very precise by default take a bucket of balls too. Most of the holes are so claustrophobic that I don't know how first time visitors or average golfers can actually enjoy their game! Now a few words on self proclaimed "immaculate course condition... " Fairways are good but nothing special and far from great let alone immaculate! The same goes for bunkers. I have been in "only" two and bunker on 6th hole is full of stones and small rocks, so again far from immaculate. Tee-boxes are good while greens... My Oh My... The greens should be the face of the golf course! Well, here they are (and I really don't want to be rude) a disgrace for such renowned golf course. I have not yet played such upscale golf course with such poor greens so I would really love to hear the reason behind it as the weather conditions were prefect in recent months. They don't look bad and they don't have any disease on them they are just poorly maintained and if you ask me they were not fine sanded at all this season which is A MUST on every course which is aiming as high as this one. Actually every 40-50 € golf course in Austria, Slovenia or Italy probably has better greens at this time of the year! No exaggeration here unfortunately. The roll was terrible and they were slower than the traffic on D1 highway from Prague to Brno! :/ Halfway house is locely with delicious home made snacks and nice views. Practice area is quite tight and I just hate warming up on artificial mats at the driving range. Food in the restaurant was also very good so make sure you try Marillenknödel for desert. Authentic clubhouse itself looks beautiful but interior and locker rooms are a bit so-so. The pro-shop is nice and well stocked and the staff was really very friendly and helpful in general. So YES it is a must play if you are in the area and NO it is not the best golf course in Austria.
