Leonard review

Olgiata will be hosting the Italian Open in October 2019 and after the renovation 6 years ago (by Jim Fazio) it is ready! The length of this course from the black tees is amazing with it's length of 6918 meters it would be the 3rd longest course on the European Tour compared to the courses last year and the only one with a par 71. The Clubhouse is not the newest but very large with a lot of separate spaces for members activities. The food was excellent and good value for money. We played the course after a lot of rain and it was still possible to get a buggy and the course was very playable. The greens were in excellent condition despite the time of year (end of January) and I would love to come back here and play it in summer or fall. The holes where also quite long from the yellow tees and unplayable for amateurs from the backtees. The course was very nice located in a quit suburb of Rome. Nice trees beautiful fairways and tight tee-boxes. The original designer was Kenneth Cotton and you can recognise his large shallow bunkers, most tee's are elevated and some holes stand out. Hole 5 a par 4 with a solitude tree in the middle of the fairway and lot's of bunkers in the left corner. Hole 8 is an extreem par 4 (455m. from the black tee) but from yellow it is do-able to clear the little stream with a good drive and make a birdie (my only one). Hole 10,11 and 12 are a bit straight forward and not so exciting. 15 has a nice green protected by water and 18 an other 450 meter par 4 for the professionals. All in all Olgiata is a nice course to play, as long as you stick to the tee that fits your game. The food is very nice and I think it's a great course to play in the Rome area.
