Golfclub Lenzerheide was designed by Donald Harradine and opened in 1951. Harradine's credo was to make a course fun and playable for all level of golfers but also challenging for the low handicapper. And I think he succeeded in Lenzerheide. At 5200 meters from the backtees the course is quite short by today's standard. But thankfully the club has resisted to lengthen the course as it isn't needed. There are plenty of challenges out there. Make sure to hit some balls at the range before you tee off (the short game area is quite nice too) as some of the hardest holes of the course are right at the start. The 1st hole is a longer par 4 playing as a slight downhill dogleg right. The women's tee box has the form of a heart and I am sure my wife would have loved that. There is a pond and a tree guarding the left side of the green. You then walk down a little path to the par 3 2nd hole. The tee boxes are in the woods and all you see is the green and some beautiful mountains in the background. The 3rd hole is the toughest of the course. You hit from a raised tee box and the fairway turns slightly to the left. The hole sets up nicely for a drawer of the golf ball but it can be tricky for a slicer. You then need to hit your ball over a ditch into a small green where being short is better than long. So after a tough start things get a bit more relaxed at Golfclub Lenzerheide. My favourite hole on the front 9 was the short par 4 5th hole. It's only 265 meters long and plays downhill. The green is definitely reachable but it is a small target. A fun golf hole. My other favourite hole was the par 5 10th hole. It’s 450 meters long and a good drive on the firm fairways of Lenzerheide was rolling forever and left me with only 170 meters to the hole. Your second shot needs to be hit over a ditch and the green is guarded by a well placed bunker on the right. A nice hole again. Unfortunately our round ended too soon as a big storm was coming in once we holed out on the 13th hole. I definitely have to go back to Lenzerheide! It’s a lovely course and very well maintained. I recommend playing the course if you are in the area.
