About Wallasey Golf Club

The Wallasey Golf Club was established in 1891 and has conventional links of 6,607 yards with its undulating fairways and dunes. It is located overlooking Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea on the Wirral peninsula, leaving it open to the daunting sea breeze. It is one of the great northern links courses, originally designed by Tom Morris Senior and later altered by Alec Herd, Harold Hilton and James Braid — other notable golfing figures. Many great events have been hosted by the course, including The Open's qualifying rounds, most recently when the championship returned to nearby Royal Liverpool in 2006. The club hosted the qualification rounds of the Amateur Championship in 1995 and again in 2000.

Their course is a true test of golf, partly due to the prevailing northwesterly winds and the variety of holes making its natural terrain all the more fascinating. Among the toughest are the final four holes – particularly the 18th, which is a wonderful hole to complete the round. Wallasey Golf Club's course has been described as 'The Diamond in th

Wallasey Golf Club
Founded in 1891 by members from nearby Hoylake, with an initial layout from Old Tom Morris Bobby Jones played his qualifying round at Wallasey for the 1930 Open at Royal Liverpool. Wallasey must have had a lasting effect on Bobby Jones too, as he sat for a portrait painted by one of the members. This portrait ‘Bobby’ still hangs proudly in the lounge to this day. A…

Wallasey Golf Club
Founded in 1891 by members of nearby Hoylake, Wallasey is very conveniently located for those living on the Liverpool side of the Mersey. Old Tom Morris arranged the original layout which has been heavily modified by A Herd, H Hilton, J Braid, Hawtree & Taylor and fairly recently (2004) by Donald Steel. The club has two claims to fame. Wallasey was the site of final quali…

Wallasey Golf Club
Living locally it’s my go-to course. The only personal letdown for me is not having a bigger practice area. About 140/150 yards with not much leeway on either side if you're not consistent! The course is absolutely fantastic always in good nick and playing from various tees gives the golf course a different challenge.

Wallasey Golf Club
Founded in 1891 by members of nearby Hoylake, Wallasey is very conveniently located for those all visiting Hoylake or the Lancashire links. Old Tom Morris arranged the original layout which has been heavily modified by A Herd, H Hilton, J Braid, Hawtree & Taylor, Donald Steel (2004), M&E and recently the club engaged CDP. Only four OTM greens remain; 2,7,8 & 12. The clu…
