The golf course was designed in 1926 by Major Cecil Hutchison (who helped to design Gleneagles) and is set in glorious National Trust property. The course overlooks the rich agricultural land of Herefordshire and the Welsh borders and offers unrivalled panoramic views of The Brecon Beacons, The Black Mountains, The Clee Hills, The Shropshire Hills

Another great golf course which sits on the English Welsh borders. Kington is the highest 18 hole golf course in England at 1284 feet above sea level, at its highest point. The beauty of Kington is most of the climbing is done by car as you snake your way up the clubhouse. On one of those beautiful sunny days its the best place to see over towards the Brecon Beacons, Th…

At just under 6000 yards, many will dismiss Kington as far too short and nothing but a bit of fun, though fun Kington certainly is, the course should not be taken lightly. Hutchison’s fondness for North Berwick, a links famous for its variety and quirkiness, enabled him to value unusual concepts without discarding what was at the time modern design theory. Opened in 1926,…

The scenery is stunning and worth the visit alone. I found the course itself challenging enough to be very interesting but not so tough as to make me disheartened. The fairways were interesting, having to share them with sheep, plus the fact that the ground was very uneven, to the extent that there is a local rule allowing placing and counting sheep droppings as “loose im…
