About Aldeburgh Golf Club

Founded in 1884, Aldeburgh Golf Club is England’s second oldest maritime heathland course. Our Championship Course is a substantial challenge for even the best golfer. Every hole presents an examination in shot making and accuracy. It is also a beautiful place to play golf. The views of the River Alde and glimpses of the North Sea, grey one day, blue another, are enough to raise the spirits even when the score is not quite up to expectation.

The Championship Course at 6,603 yards, but with no par fives on the men’s card, is a substantial challenge for even the best golfer. Every hole presents an examination in shot making and accuracy. The River Course, a nicely balanced nine holes, that offers a challenge both to experienced and novice golfer. It overlooks a wide, sweeping reach of the Alde river with wonderful views across the marshes and its abundant bird life.

The 18 hole Course
During my visit, I was impressed by the impeccable course conditions, a testament to the diligent work of the greenkeeping staff. It’s worth noting that there was some gorse removal in certain areas, primarily in preparation for the introduction of new par 5s. This maintenance work, while not meticulously done, served its purpose well and did not detract from the overall …

The 18 hole Course
Aldeburgh is a traditional golf club located near the sea, complete with white mast for flags, which you notice immediately when you arrive. The clubhouse has recently been refurbished and combines modern lounge and dining areas with more traditional oak-panelled rooms, which somehow works very well. Next to the clubhouse is a small but well-stocked pro shop and visitors …

The 18 hole Course
Aldeburgh is a bit of an enigma: routed along the edges of the woodland and through the heather and gorse, it is supposed to be a heathland course, yet it is distinctly "linksy" in feel and required playing style. Playing to a par of 68 and with no par 5's on the card, this is a brutally hard test - with lots of really long par 4's requiring length and and the very hard, …

The 18 hole Course
The bonhomie in the pro's shop was typical of that at Aldeburgh. I had won a two-ball through The National Golf Club Challenge in aid of wounded veterans and already my experience of booking had been excellent with no problem in pushing on our time from the previous day to avoid a storm. The welcome was equally warm in the clubhouse where we noshed on the tastiest sca…
