About The Alwoodley Golf Club

Alwoodley is recognised as one of Britain’s finest inland courses. It was designed by Alister MacKenzie, the famous golf course architect. He left a legacy of classic golf courses – Alwoodley was the first. Established in 1907, the MacKenzie-designed layout remains today, though lengthened to 6,900 yards. A natural heathland course, springy fairways cut through a profusion of heather, whins and shrubs.

Dating back to 1907, Alwoodley is a course of subtle angles and great strategic interest. The course will make you think and course management is important here. Wider landing areas are often available at the expense of longer approach shots. Alwoodley is regarded as one of the finest inland courses in Britain as well as being of great historical s

Alwoodley Golf Club is undoubtedly one of Great Britain & Ireland’s leading lights when it comes to inland golf. Very few courses can surpass the debut work of Dr. Alister MacKenzie as a golf course architect in terms of quality, playability, strategy and ultimately as a true test of golf. As at most top courses the ground game is still very much alive and kicking at Al…

Great course, rough is way too severe just off the fairway, unless everyone is off very low handicap it’s a day looking for golf balls.

Alwoodley
This indeed is one of the finest inland championship courses not just in Yorkshire but in England. Alwoodley - near Leeds - was the first design project of Dr Alister MacKenzie, a founding member and the club's first secretary in 1907. The course is tough, but not too difficult. It is quite subtle. You need to have proper course management here and you need to have a good…
