I play my golf at Clandon G.C. and when I get invited to Walton Heath I feel I'm playing probably the best course(old course) you could wish to play on.

Na o.a. Liphook, Hindhead, Blackmoor en Hankley Common zou deze baan het hoogtepunt en afsluiting van onze golfweek moeten worden. Played in December in a drizzle but the layout is very testing, you can see why they have US Open qualifiers here. Any thing off the fairway in winter conditions is at least half a shot penalty. A wide variety of holes with no weaknesses, and in great condition. A very traditional club house which is immaculate and a very warm welcome from the staff.

Walton Heath Golf Club is one of the premier heathland tracks in the south of London and rich in history. King Edward VIII was once the club captain. Winston Churchill used to be a member. Een der grote golfbanen rond London, getekend door Herbert Fowler. Mooi geintegreerd in een heidelandschap met bunkers overgroeid met heidekruid. Vlak en niet al te moeilijk. Tot voor enkele jaren was hier nog een clubmaker die originele houten clubs maakte.

Walton Heath was eens de baan waarop de Ryder cup 1981 is gespeeld. In de jaren daarna is ze meer en meer gerijpt. Laat er geen misverstand over bestaan, het is een chique club en de greenfee is een astronomische GBP 180,-. Daar krijg je dan wel een hele mooie en verzorgde baan voor. Prachtige heidebanen, maar vlak langs de snelweg, waardoor er geen stilte is. Zeker bij holes 8 tot 10 lijkt het of je op de snelweg loopt. De banen zijn op een hoogvlakte met veel heide en een enkele boom De greens zijn snel en goed onderhouden, de fairways zijn uitstekend op de Old course en vraagt wat onderhoud op de eerste holes van de New.

Beautiful old English club. Welcoming. Outstanding putting green. Lacks a driving range. Every hole is a challenge. Love playing here.

Walton Heath has the ideal grounds for golf with its open heathland countryside. Most people rate the Old course better then the New course but personally I don't see much difference, I think both are superb. A tough challenge especially in the summer when the course plays very firm due to its clay base. If you keep out of the heather, you will love this inland links!
