Granite Hills Golf Course

This was an absolutely breath taking course. The only issue my husband and I had was with the Marshall trying to pair us with another couple we don't even know. People teeing off every 7 minutes. After the second hole we decided to split up. The Marshall kept coming up to us telling us to push the other group in front of us harder. We let some people pass as well. It was backed up so bad, we were 4 groups on one hole at one point. The Marshall just kept pushing and pushing! We didn't have time to look for a ball for a minute. At the end on hole #16, the Marshall then became more friendly and said we kept up well. This kind of ruined our experience.

Granite Hills Golf Club is located about 90-minutes northeast of Winnipeg and built on 320 acres that run along Lac du Bonnet at the mouth of the Lee River. It opened in 2007 and features four sets of blocks that range from 5428 to 7082 yards. With a course rating of 74.8 from the black tees and a slope of 134 this course will challenge any caliber of golfer. I found every hole to be unique. There are five that run parallel to the shoreline, six that include a pond, while the others incorporate huge rocky outcrops from the Canadian Shield. There are plenty of elevation changes with well-defined tree-lined fairways and 35 bunkers to test your accuracy. The quarry sand is course but easy to hit out of. The first two holes are both 400-yard par-4s so you need to bring out the big artillery right out of the gate. Architect Les Ferber admitted that he modeled the third hole after the 18th at Pebble Beach which has now been fondly nicknamed “Pebble Beach of the North”. This par-5 dogleg left around the shoreline of Lac de Bonnet ends with a long slender green that juts out to a peninsula. Hole #13 has a dramatic 40-foot rocky outcrop on the corner of this dogleg left. The tee blocks on 14 are the highest elevation on the course with the lake forming an impressive backdrop. The finishing four holes maybe the strongest you will find anywhere. The 15th is a downhill par-5 dogleg right that shows off the lake and lodging. The 16th is a par-4 that doglegs left around the shoreline and the 18th is carved out of the granite face with water running down the entire left side. Granite Hills should be ranked in the top 100 golf courses in Canada and I will lobby for that honour. A definite must-play.
