Joint effort of Ernie and Vijah
The Valley course is a combined effort of Ernie Els Design and Vijay
Singh (aka “The Big Fijian”) and this latest golf course compliments the Ocean Course which is
another Els design. According to Vijay, the Valley Course at the Desaru
Coast has been designed to accommodate players of all skill level, but
golfers need to stay focused.
Vijay: “This is a one-of-a-kind golf
course that will reward golfers for good play but penalise wayward
shots. I also feel that it provides a real element of escapism for
golfers. You find yourself on this tranquil corner of south-east
Malaysia, overlooking the ocean and to Singapore in the distance. The
atmosphere and location really set the tone and we think the golf course
only adds to the experience of the Desaru Coast.”
Vijay has used his experiences across the globe to design the new Valley course. Vijay: “I
would say the range of golf courses I have played around the world over
my career has shaped my opinion on what makes a great golf course
design. I try and approach the design as I saw the game; needing all the
shots and rewarding well-placed and executed shots. When you get your
hands on a great piece of land, like Desaru Coast, you can do this.”
The Valley Course
Considering its name – the Valley course – it is not surprising that the
golf course traverses the valleys and streams of Desaru, providing a
variety of shots and challenges. The 18-hole Valley Course has a
distinct character, set by dramatic elevation changes and stunning ocean
vistas. The course opening will elevate the Desaru Coast into one of
Malaysia’s most comprehensive golf destinations. Not the least with the
added appeal of two clubhouses, the Els Performance Golf Academy – one
of the most complete training facilities – and the Academy Course, a
brilliantly designed par-3 course.

Prices of the Valley Course are a bit higher than the Ocean Course. A
green fee for The Valley Course will set you back RM 650.00 (650
Malaysian Ringgit is approximately 135 euro) during the week and RM
750.00 in the weekend. So, green fee prices are slightly higher than the
Ocean Course. Bookings can be made via the
Els Club Malaysia or via Leadingcourses.com.
Two locations in Malaysia
If you want to play at the Els Club in Malaysia be aware of the fact that there are two locations:
The Els Club – Desaru Coast and
The Els Club – Teluk Datai.
The Els Club at Desaru Coast is located in the south of Malaysia, close
to Singapore. The Els Club at Teluk Datai is located on Langkawi island
in the north of Malaysia. So, don’t think you can easily play at both
golf clubs, it will take some travel time (to say the least).
Desaru Coast
The Desaru Coast is a new development in Malaysia to accomodate more
tourists. Desaru Coast opened its ‘doors’ in September 2016 with the
launch of The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course. Soon after that The
Hard Rock hotel opened and others followed or will follow. From luxury
resorts and villas, to quaint riverside shopping, to a championship golf
course designed by former World No. 1 professional golfer Ernie Els and
a fun-filled adventure waterpark – no matter how you choose to get away
from it all, you will find your very own perfect escape at Desaru
Coast.
