If you like to play on different golf courses but don’t want the
stress of driving, a resort with 36+ holes is ideal. You have the
freedom to eat, sleep and play – all in one place. These golf resorts
are ordered by overall rating given by real golfers on
Leadingcourses.com. So the number 1 –
Quinta do Lago in this case – holds the highest rating at the the time of this post.
This ranking of the best golf resorts in Portugal is based on
reviews of golfers on Leadingcourses.com. This ranking does not
necessary reflect the opinion of Leadingcourses.com. Not all resorts in
the list are actual resorts, but they do have a hotel alongside the golf
course. This ranking was last updated February 14th, 2020.1. Quinta do Lago

Quinta do Lago
is an exclusive golf and residential estate nestling in nearly 2.000
acres of countryside and pine forests. It also borders the Atlantic
Ocean and the Ria Formosa Natural Park, in Algarve.
The course was
created in 1972 and currently has 3 x 18 hole golf courses. These are:
Quinta do Lago North,
Quinta do Lago South and the
Laranjal Golf Course.
The latter, the Quinta do Lago Laranjal course is rated highest by
golfers. If you want to stay here, then a good option is to stay at The Magnolia Hotel which is part of the Quinta do Lago resort. Otherwise Diamond Villas at Vilar Do Golf by Diamond Resorts would make a nice choice. It offers an indoor swimming pool, a children’s pool and a gym.
2. Vale do Lobo
Number 2 in our ranking of Best Golf
Resorts in Portugal with 36+ holes is Vale do Lobo. Vale do Lobo is
home to two challenging and outstanding golf courses – the
Royal Golf Course and the
Ocean Golf Course. Both Vale do Lobo courses take players through
umbrella pine and fig tree-lined fairways to the Atlantic. The Royal,
playing dramatically along the cliff’s edge, while the Ocean sweeps
daintily down to the beach. This combination of links and parkland golf
provides an enjoyable game for golfers of all standards.
If you’re planning to stay at Vale do Lobo, then
Vale Do Lobo Resort
is a great option. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to leave the
resort. Dinner at Vale do Lobo Resort vary from French to Italian to
seafood specialities. Many restaurants are located on the beach, and
there is a crêperie offering light lunches and snacks. You can also
access the beach from the resort.
3. Quinta da Ria Resort
Quinta da Ria Resort,
situated in the Eastern Coast, is a well-known golf resort in the
Algarve. It has two spectacular golf courses,
Quinta da Ria and
Quinta
de Cima, both 18-hole golf courses with unforgettable scenery. The club
is located just over half an hour from Faro International Airport.
Quinta da Ria resort is perfectly integrated in the Ria Formosa Nature
Reserve, the most significant ecosystem in the Algarve. The Quinta da
Ria Course is slightly better appreciated by golfers, probably because
it has better views. The Cima course is more difficult and demanding
than the Ria course. There is no actual hotel located on the golf course
itself. The
Robinson Club Quinta Da Ria however, is located just adjacent to Quinta da Ria which is good enough!
4. Vale da Pinta & Gramacho
Vale da Pinta
golf in the Algarve, is rightly respected for its playability and
challenging layout. It is also known for its outstanding levels of
beauty and enjoyment.
The resort was designed by the famous American
golf course architect Ronald Fream and inaugurated in 1992.
Vale de
Pinta has earned its place as one of the best designed courses in the
Algarve and in Europe. After his success designing the Vale de Pinta
course, Ronald Fream teamed up with the former world No. 1 Nick Price to
create the unique design of
Gramacho.
With 18 holes and 27 greens, plus numerous different tee points,
players are able to enjoy the same course time and time again but always
with slightly different challenges. We recommend to stay at
Pestana Golfe Resort. The peaceful town of Lagoa is just 2 km away.
5. Aroeira I & II
Located only 25km from the centre of Lisbon, the
Aroeira I & II
courses are easily accessible to golfers from all over Europe. The
location boasts two 18-hole golf courses that have hosted a number of
European Tour events including the prestigious European Men’s Club
Trophy in 2013. The two courses offer players of all levels a stimulating
and varied challenge. Herdade da Aroeira is located in a preserved area,
just 600 meters from the beach. The estate covers 350 hectares, has
thousands of pines and several lakes to go with a temperate microclimate
that allows you to play golf all year round. If that’s not enough, the
area also has a top golf school, a friendly clubhouse with snack-bar,
bar and golf shop, as well as apartments and villas, tropical swimming
pool, four tennis courts, playground, shopping mall and a hotel is
planned.
6. Morgado do Reguengo Golf Resort
The
Morgado do Reguengo Golf Resort
is located near the Monchique Mountains just 4 kilometres from Portimão
and offers two championship courses: the
Morgado Golf Course and
Álamos
Golf Course. Both golf courses have 18 holes and they are complemented
by the Academia de Golf do Morgado, which offers unique practise
conditions in Portugal. The Álamos Golf Course is rated slightly higher
than the Morgado course. The Morgado course has flat fairways and
Scottish inspired bunkers. The Álamos course is a short course. It
offers stunning views of the Monchique mountains, some lakes and
farmland. Stay at
The Morgado Golf & Country Club; this 4-star hotel has 4 outdoor swimming pools and a nice restaurant.
