Lisbon has many sights and is an ideal city to visit when you want to
combine a city-break with golfing. The city is vibrant with heaps of fun
things to do. A ride with tram 28 is one of the most popular things to
do. With this old-fashioned tram you can see Lisbon in a fun way.
Alfama District
The Alfama district is one of the oldest and most well known
neighbourhoods in Lisbon. Alfama is known for its narrow and cozy
streets (which are very steep) where you can find many bars and
eateries. You can also enjoy a glass of Portuguese wine or port and a
tasty meal. Castelo de São Jorge is one of the sights in the Alfama.
This ancient castle is located on the highest mountain in Lisbon and
gives a fantastic view of the city.
You can listen to fado in Alfama too. Fado is the typical Portuguese
life song that is full of sorrow and melancholy, but can also be very
festive. Dive into a restaurant or bar in Alfama in the evening and
there is a good chance that you can listen to live fado music.
You will also enjoy culinary delights in Lisbon. In addition to the
selection of excellent food bars and restaurants, Lisbon is known for
its Pastéis de nata – delicious custard cakes. These cakes are also
known as Pastéis de Belém, named after the famous bakery in the Belém
district. They have the only original recipe of the cakes. A visit to
Lisbon is not complete without having eaten a Pastel de Nata.
