Situated in the town of Mandeville, the Manchester Club is not only Jamaica’s oldest golf course but also the Caribbean’s oldest. Although it only has nine greens, it has 18 teeing grounds, assuring even the best golfer stays interested. At par 35, the course can be played by beginners and experts alike. The Manchester Golf Club was founded in 1865 among the rolling hills of Manchester, Jamaica and soon after the invention of golf by the Scottish; a course was built in the grounds. It is understood that Thompson updated the course to its present state in 1930 with periodic fine tuning thereafter, as well as planning for 9 additional holes with Robert (Bob) Moote in 1951.
The stone walls marking the boundary of the course come into play on almost every hole. The greens are small and bunkered, with blind shots into several of them.
The 4th hole, a par 4, is known as the Bamboo hole. It is one of the most beautiful golf holes anywhere.
