Southport & Ainsdale hosted the 1933 and 1937 Ryder Cup matches and also hosted many more amateur events and professional competitions in the past. Compared to its immediate neighbour Hillside GC it doesn't have the big dunes but the golf is better at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club. I thoroughly enjoyed the game there. Wunderschöner course. Heidekraut, Sanddünen und Bunker mit meterhohen Wänden. Ryder Cup 1933/1937 und viele andere große Turniere.

Net als in NL heeft ook de UK te lijden onder extreme droogte. Dit valt gelijk op als je arriveert op het mooie terras en uitkijkt over de oefengreen en eerste hole. Bruin hooi en kneppelharde ondergrond. Een nieuwe dimensie aan linksgolf. De ontvangst is stug te noemen, het lijkt alsof men niet echt op bezoekers zit te wachten. Prachtige baan met veel historie. Twee keer gastheer vd Ryder Cup. De baan is niet makkelijk. Smal en een hoge rough waar je je bal maar moeilijk kunt terug vinden.

southport è un links molto divertenmte con molti colpi cechi ma con una diversita di buche che mettono alla prova la vs concentrazione. si inizia con un par 3 assai complicato ma il finale è molto divertente buona ospitalita.

Geweldige Linksbaan onder de rook van buren Royal Birkdale en Hillside. Begint met een par 3 voor het terras en dan gaat het los in en door de duinen. Top greens en zeer uitdagende bunkers. Af en toe een (semi) blinde slag maar ook weidse uitzichten over de baan. Net als de buren enigszins aan de prijs, lunch wel inbegrepen, maar zeker een bezoek waard.

Geweldige linkscourse! Ook hier start de eerste hole, mooie par 3, voor het clubhuis en komt de 18e ook uit voor het terras bij het clubhuis. Trein langszij. De baan loopt door de duinen maar er is meer begroeiing dan alleen helmgras, hier en daar bomen en veel gele brem. Prachtige greens, mooi egaal en fijn van snelheid. A James Braid classic - having played many of his designs this is my favourite! I know Royal Birkdale & Hillside are its close neighbours, but for my money S&A is the truest links golf experience of the 3, as when the wind blows you know that you're on a links at S&A. The management are always asking members opinions so important aspects are usually taken care of quickly or at least not allowed to go unnoticed. This course gives an excellent golfing experience. it has held qualifying tournaments and does have an interesting history, hosting the Ryder Cup twice in the 30's.
