Kingsbarns was the biggest surprise on our trip to St. Andrews in the summer of 2019. Sure I heard from other golfers that it was great but the relatively young course (est. 2000) surrounded by all these ancient courses gave me a bit of prejudice. This was totally wrong! The reception is great immediately you feel welcome and they know who you are. Trolly's are readily available excellent driving range. The view from the clubhouse on the green of the 18th is great through immense glass windows. Still the clubhouse is quite small and cosy and perfect for what you need it for. Some people I talked to before playing said that Kingsbarns is not that difficult. As all courses in this area it really depends on the conditions. We played the course with 30 mph winds with gusts up to 50 and I can assure you it was no walk in the park. At the 9th hole par 5 I needed two 3-woods and a hybrid to get close to the green. Still the course was really enjoyable. The maintenance is close to perfect the views are stunning and the holes are beautifully shaped. You cannot believe that all these holes where man-made the way they perfectly fit in to the surroundings. The views are amazing from every hole you see the sea. If I have to pick out a couple of holes I think it will be 12-15. The 12th is a beautiful long par 5 a long the coast with an elevated green, followed by 13 a challenging par 3 with treacherous pot bunkers and a huge slope left. 14 a drive-able par 4 and 15 according to Kingsbarns their signature hole, a par 3 with the sea right and trees on the left. Only option is to hit in on the green. To sum up Kingsbarns is really an unforgettable experience, very professional, great maintenance, excellent design and amazing views.
