We stay at Glenmor for a week every year in early May and have played all 3 courses. The King’s is our favourite, it is an unforgiving track with many outstanding holes. The Queen’s is shorter and so picturesque with a challenging start, but after half way the holes are easier and normally downwind so if you can keep the ball straight you will score well. Some of the scenery on these two courses is as glorious as you can get with the glades, the Ochil hills in the background and the seemingly rarefied atmosphere, Both the King’s and Queen’s are about 100 years old unlike the PGA Centenary which hosted the 2014 Ryder Cup and opened for play only in 1993. It will also host the 2019 Solheim Cup. The PGA Centenary is the least loved course of the trio because it is big, brash and long, but it was modified with the Ryder Cup in mind and includes big amphitheatre greens to house huge galleries. This is a real challenge for the very accomplished golfer and it’s condition has improved greatly over the last 5 years. The practice facilities are good and are mainly at the PGA Course and most of the parking is at that end of the Estate. Gleneagles is probably the best Golf Resort in the world with its mixture of old world charm,3 very different golf courses and a magnificent hotel set in scenery that in good weather is simply beautiful. Golf here is not cheap, particularly in high season where you also need to be a hotel resident, or Club member, to be allowed to play. The Courses are not really a Club although The Dormy is the equivalent of a Clubhouse and the hospitality here is high class. Overall a magical venue that every keen golfer should save up for and regard as a golfing pilgrimage at least once in their life.
