The main characteristic of this golf club, in my opinion, is it's varied golf course. You will not find two holes similar one to the other. Basically is a short course with narrow tense tee shots, with hazards everywhere, so be ready to loose some golf balls (astonishly, I did not loose a single ball, almost nor missed any fairway). But as a compensation for that, this is not a golf course you will easily forget, and for sure that quite a few shots will remain in your mind way after playing the round. For example, there are several tee shots played from very high ground to fairways way below, and sometimes quite a distance away, with dense brush or out of bounds on both sides. A little wind on top of that memorable view, makes the moment impossible to forget. But not just that. Holes all along side a lake, shots over big lakes, huge bunkers, straight holes, dog legs, shots to greens that seem to be just right by heaven (hiding hell around it...), an inmense lake in front of you forcing all kind of calcullations in order to choose a club, etc. Never in my live played in a single tournament round 2 or 3 half swing drivers, in order to avoid frontal obstacules at the same time that tried to keep the ball low and straight... The golf course is not only amusing because of all stated above. At least the day I played it, it was in great shape, this being something specially valuable due to the circunstances present at that time (COVID), with most courses having few visitors and not being able to keep it as in shape as usually. Montecastillo was just in perfect shape. Greens were just like crystal, forcing you to really hit good shots to green in order to avoid three putting. Despite how varied the course is, you always feel like if the course was always there fitting naturally in the hilly ground where it is placed. Local trees and bushes help in that. There is only a but to this golf course, and it is probably directly related to what stated just above: very long walks from some greens to the next tee. Some of the longest I ever walked. A friend of mine played with a sport smart whatch and showed me 16 km walk for the day! Add to that how hilly the terrain is. Really need to be fit to walk this course and I was specially happy to carry my golf bag on my shoulders, instead of pushing a hand cart up and down hill. Practice ground is quite amusing and wide, with 2 putting greens and chipping areas, all packed together around tee number 1 and club house. All this practice area is kind like in a depression of the terrain, so it was a little bit too warm there. Considering it was end of November!, and packing that all together with the long walks down and up hill, made me think it might not be the best course to play in summer. Buggy a must in that time of the year! Did not see much of the club house due to COVID reasons, but seemed to be particularly well equipped (saw a sauna, for example). Right by spectacular 18th green, lake and fairway, quite close to clubhouse, there is a hotel with a lovely and huge terrace. We had breakfast in the hotel buffet (indoors) and a late nice lunch in the terrace, with very cheerfull staff. Great day of golf in a lovely place despite the circunstances (COVID). Congratulations!
Many thanks for your words Carlos. We look forward to welcoming you again at Montecastillo.
