Brora

Brora is een echte en goed onderhouden linksbaan ontworpen door James Braird. We speelden met windsnelheden van boven de 60 km. Dan merk je pas goed hoe moeilijk het spelen is onder Schotse omstandigheden. Een bal was moeilijk om direct op de green achter te laten. Vaak was de green verhoogd en omgeven door veel potbunkers. Toch blijft het hier leuk spelen hoewel de prijs nu al£125 is.

Perhaps I was a little biased by the fantastic sunny and calm day or by far the best score I ever shot on a links course, but for me Brora is the epitome of enjoyable golf. There's no blend quite like it when it comes to scenery, quality, authenticity and playability. It's a holiday course, yet will never get boring. It's covered with grazing sheep and cattle, yet it is kept in very good shape. It has a raw and authentic character to it, yet it doesn't need to hide from the more famous courses in the region. On top of that, there is a very sublte and continuous flow to the out-and-back layout which I found soothing in an almost spiritual way. Not visiting Brora on a trip to the highlands would be an absolute shame for sure!

Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club - founded in 1793 - is the oldest golf club in Highland and is confirmed to be the 15th oldest golf club in the world. Highland is home to many well-known golf clubs and is definitely worth the trip when planning a golf break. Green fee prices are still acceptable and the courses and views are just outstanding.

But, this area has many hidden gems, which you definitely should pay a visit like Tain Golf Club, Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club and Durness Golf Club. 

The area above Inverness - around the village of Dornoch - would make a perfect location to stay. But, Inverness itself would also be a great starting point. If you love links golf, tranquillity and history then this is the place to go. 

A holiday to the Highland area will bring you fantastic golf courses, majestic mountains, mysterious lochs and you might be able to witness dolphins frolicking off the Moray Coast. If you like hiking, then head out to Britain's highest peak, Ben Nevis. 

Highland can be reached via the international airport of Glasgow and Edinburgh. But, Inverness also has an international airport. Inverness Airport is located some 7 miles east of Inverness and 21 miles from Loch Ness. Inverness Airport offers a range of daily flights to and from a number of key destinations including; London (Heathrow, Gatwick & Luton), Amsterdam (Schiphol), Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin, and Belfast.

Highland is a council area in the Scottish Highlands and is the largest local government area in the United Kingdom. Highland covers 32.9% of the land area of Scotland and an area 20% larger than Wales. Despite its name, the area does not cover the entire Scottish Highlands. Inverness is the largest city in Highland. The highest point in the Highland area is Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in both Scotland and the United Kingdom. 

Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club - opgericht in 1793 - is de oudste golfclub in Highland en wordt erkend als de 15e oudste golfclub ter wereld. Highland is bezaaid met bekende en goede golfclubs en is zeker de moeite waard bij het plannen van een golfvakantie. Greenfee-prijzen zijn hier nog steeds acceptabel en de golfbanen en uitzichten zijn gewoon geweldig.

Wanneer je een golfvakantie naar Highland in Schotland plant, zorg er dan voor dat je in ieder geval op de volgende Highland-golfbanen speelt: Castle Stuart (een relatief nieuwe golfclub, opgericht in 2009), Royal Dornoch Golf Club (beide banen zijn geweldig), Brora Golf Club en Nairn Golf Club. Maar dit gebied kent veel verborgen juweeltjes, die u zeker moet bezoeken, zoals bijvoorbeeld Tain Golf Club, Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club en Durness Golf Club.

This is a very nice course with a lot of good holes, the electric fence didn't bother me as I knew about them and expected them before I played. What did bother me was the amount of sheep and cows shit on the course! There is no getting away from it! Everywhere you go (apart from the greens) is rife with it! This is the reason I will never be back to play this golf course.

Leven Links

Great course. Originele links course. Bumpy fairways, snelle greens, bijn direct aan zee. Niet te veel poespas, wel ook weer veel historie. Super leuke baan.

We received a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our round. Some challenging holes with several blind shots into the green. There are some tough par fours here and I could imagine that this course plays much harder in strong wind but lucky for us we played in excellent weather and I was able to avoid trouble on all 18 holes posting my best ever score. Not the most manicured fairways, but that took nothing away from how it played. Greens were in great condition and rolled true. You would be missing out if you are in the area and don't give Leven a look.

Der erste PLatz meiner Schottland Rundreise direkt nach dem Flug, hier kann man erstmal etwas preisgünstiger starten mit einer Mittagsstartzeit. Der Platz war interessant zu spielen, nicht besonders schwer, es kommt natürlich immer auf die Windstärke drauf an. Von der Länge sonst eher kurz zu spielen, erster Links Eindruck bevor man dann die Schwergewichte spielt :-).

Fife, The Home of Golf, is a must-visit destination for every golfer. Fife is only a 30 minutes drive from Edinburgh Airport and is home to more than 40 excellent golf clubs. Many of the Fife golf courses were founded before 1900, but Fife is also home to some very new golf courses, like Dumbarnie Links which opened in 2020. 

When visiting Fife for a golf break, you have to visit St Andrews Links. If you are not able to play the Old Course, then at least try one of the other six courses of St Andrews. Other top Fife golf courses are: Kingsbarns Golf Links, Crail Golfing Society, Leven Links Golf Club and Fairmont St Andrews. The best golf courses in Fife are located around St Andrews and Leven. 

When in Fife and you want a break from golf - something we can't really imagine - then discover the ancient castles, explore golden beaches, learn about the history of whisky or swim with sharks! 

If you're flying in, you can choose from airports at Edinburgh to the south, Glasgow to the west or Dundee to the north. Edinburgh Airport is less than 30 minutes away so you'll be in Fife in no time. Dundee Airport is even closer and also has excellent road and rail links into Fife.

Fife is a county in Scotland, which is situated between the Firth of Tay and the Firth of Forth. The historic town of St Andrews is located on the northeast coast of Fife, well known for the University of St Andrews, the most ancient university of Scotland and one of the oldest universities in the world. But, St Andrews is also renowned throughout the world as 'The home of Golf'. St Andrews Links offers one of the oldest golf courses in the world, golf was played here since the 15th century. In 1843 the St Andrews Golf Club was founded.

I have played Leven links many times along with golf course's all over Scotland and the world, and I can honestly say it is one of my favourites. The condition of the course is impeccable especially the greens. The outstanding 18th hole is a fantastic finishing hole and it is obvious that the free keepers work very hard to keep the course like this. The clubhouse I use is the Leven thistle as everyone in the clubhouse is so friendly and helpful, and to top it off the food is tremendous.

Tain Golf Course

An amazing old Tom Morris course with many original greens still in use. Great to play all year round, shorter in the winter but great fun still.

A beautiful yet challenging golf course, well-maintained and with fantastic views of forests, the adjacent sea and mountains in the distance. Very friendly staff and locals, Highly recommendable to players of all levels.

Ce parcours est bien noté sur certains sites, mais il ne mérite pas le détour.

Tain Golf Club

I have played this course a number of times now and really enjoy it. The layout is challenging and you really need to think about your shots. Clubhouse has a warm feeling with everyone involved including the club pro, are very friendly. My only gripe is the condition of certain areas of the course, but they are working on it and it is improving week by week. Overall very good course!

Castle Stuart

Future development: 6 lodges and much more! Same designers as Kingsbarns. They look after the high end visitor. Quite high end facility with stunning views. Not many golf courses have such a beautiful entrance or surroundings! What a STUNNING spot! Gill Hanse design. Not the hardest course, but it does get interesting when the wind blows. It is a great visitor experience. Returning nines to the club house; the in and out round come towards the club house. Quite close to Inverness Airport. Easy access both private and commercial. Dormy House has been a plan concept since 2014.127 lodges have been approved already. Possibly the new design is also going to be designed by Palmer Group (golf operator/developer, as well as the new rooms and club houses). Opened July 2009. Castle Stuart is ranked #53 in the World. The only reason I did not give more points to the Club House appearance is for the amount of stairs and the entrance to the building. Nevertheless, one of the most Beautiful views from a club house!

This golf course is definitely worth the visit! Amazing how almost all holes have the sea besides. The architecture is from the highest level and this course can easily go along the world top courses! From the opening hole to the closing hole, all will give you this magic feeling. The routing is insanely good! Club house gives great views and has comfy seats. Fantastic experience!

Prachtige linkscourse met een subliem design. Een openbare baan met een privé karakter. Goed speelbaar ook voor een eerste keer. Geweldige vergezichten over de baai waarbij wij zeehonden zagen zonnen op het strand en dolfijnen zagen springen in de golven. Goed gebruik van de hoge duinen voor zowel uitzicht als ook voor een aantal holes. Het onderhoud van de baan is uitstekend. De greens zijn wellicht wat hard, waardoor aanspelen moeilijk kan zijn. De caddiemaster verstaat zijn vak en houdt goed toezicht op de baan. Het clubhuis is prachtig gebouwd, heeft een goed overzicht over de baan en het restaurant is goed van opzet. Vriendelijke mensen. Van onze reis in deze streek de mooiste baan die we aandeden.

Possibly my favourite golfing experience, golf course is fantastic and the staff are very pleasant and polite. The course is a top condition and the layout is challenging and enjoyable.

Struie Course

Royal Dornoch is one of my favorite courses in the world. Go north in Scotland in April and May and you will find the course in beautiful yellow with the horse in flowers, Hole 5 and 6 are my favorites.

Had the Play, Shop & dine deal. Course was fantastic. Fairways are like Axminster carpets. Staff were very welcoming.

Traumhafter Linkscourse in hervorragendem Pflegezustand, sehr abwechslungsreiche Löcher. Der Platz ist sicherlich auch für Golfspieler mit durchschnittlicher Spielstärke gut zu meistern.

Royal Dornoch Golf Club

Golf course is in top condition and nothing I cannot say anything negative about my experience. Loved every minute of it. Very challenging and long.
