Golf in Alicante

Alicante - known locally as Alacant - echoes the Arabic name Laqant or Al-Laqant. The most notable feature of the city is the Castle of Santa Bárbara, which is situated on Mount Benacantil. It sits high above the city and the port of Alicante. The promenade Explanada de España, lined by palm trees, is paved with 6.5 million marble floor tiles creating a wavy form and is one of the most lovely promenades in Spain. Due to the port and Alicante Airport tourism has been able to grow rapidly as accesibility is no issue. Alicante Airport is among the busiest airports in Spain after Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Málaga. Although there a only 5 Alicante golf courses in close vicinity of Alicante, many golfers will use Alicante as their starting point of their golf holiday. Many golfers fly into Alicante and then drive up to Benidorm in the north or to Torrevieja in the south. Alicante is known for its festivals, like The Fogueres de Sant Joan Festival (20th until the 29th of June). The climate and the accesibility by plane or boat make Alicante ideal for a golf break. Besides golf and its festivals, Alicante also offers another attraction. Tabarca is the only inhabited island in Valencia region and is located only 11 nautical miles from Alicante. Alicante enjoys mild winter temperatures, hot summers and little rain. Daily variations in temperature are generally small because of the stabilizing influence of the sea, although occasional periods of westerly wind can produce quite some temperature changes. The best Alicante golf courses are Alenda Golf, Font del Llop Golf Resort and Alicante Golf. All the mentioned golf courses are within a radius of 20 km of Alicante.
