Mullingar

Wanted a venue in the middle of Ireland to suit golfers coming from Dublin and Galway. Mullingar was a great choice, will definitely revisit and recommend it to anyone who wants a great parkland experience.

Set in the heartland of Ireland Mullingar Golf Club is famous for its annual 72 hole scratch cup. Known as the 5th major in amateur golf in Ireland, winners include Rory McIlroy, Phillip Walton, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley. [All Ryder Cup players] Set around the famous Mullingar Lakes and protected by fabulous old Oak and Beech forests, the course is very pleasing on the eye. Dont be fooled. It is a serious course and u will need all your skills to navigate it.

Played an open in October and was very disappointed with the overall condition of the course. Poor maintenance of tee boxes and worse the greens had just been worked on a couple of days before this open. Wasnt told on the phone when I booked. I wouldn't have bothered as they were literally unplayable. Very disappointing. Left the course after 16 holes with my playing partner who like myself was not impressed. I had played this course about 15 years ago in much better condition Won't come back.

Leinster

Leinster is a great golf destination and is home to many historic and highly rated golf clubs. Along the coast near Dublin you will find great links courses like The Island Golf Club, The European Club, Portmarnock Golf Club, Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links and The Royal Dublin Golf Club. But there are also many lovely parkland courses in Leinster, like Killeen Castle, The K Club, Mount Juliet Estate, Druids Glen and Wicklow Golf Club, which is basically a parkland clifftop course. So, there is enough variety in Leinster for all type of golfers. 

In and around Dublin the green fee prices can be high, but a little bit further inland or further away, the prices drop quickly. Combine a golf trip to Leinster with some nightlife in Dublin and you'll have a great golf break. 

Getting to Leinster is easy. Dublin Airport is located in this province and is located just 10km north of Dublin City Centre. There are several transport options for those travelling to Dublin City Centre and beyond. 

Leinster is one of the four provinces of Ireland and is situated in the east of Ireland. The traditional flag of Leinster features a golden harp on a green background. The capital city of Ireland - Dublin - lies in this province. The Royal Curragh Golf Club - located in County Kildare - is Ireland's oldest golf course and the oldest in Leinster. There is proof that golf was first played on the plains of the Curragh iin 1852.
