Saltford Golf Club

I played at Saltford in a mixed greensomes event and the people we met were very friendly.

The course starts off rather mundane but becomes more interesting once you reach hole 12. From there onwards the course becomes much more undulating playing across/into/along a couple of valleys.

The best 2 holes are probably the 17th (a par 3 down a steep hill with the green protected by a pond and stream) and the 18th (a sweeping par 4 through the bottom of a valley). Note that there is a steep walk back up to the clubhouse from the 18th green. As these 2 holes are at the bottom of a valley they do suffer in the wetter part of the year.

When we played, the course was in good condition but I noted that the greens ran a fair bit slower than the practice green.

Some of the greens have severe slopes (notably the 8th and the 10th) which must limit the usable pin positions (except for on greens keepers revenge day). There are also a few multi tiered greens (notably the 13th which has 3 distinct tiers) where an approach shot to the wrong level could leave you with a very tricky putt.

The course is ok and you'll enjoy the back 9 but there are better courses in the area (Stockwood Vale, Kingsdown, Cumberwell Park etc).

Mooie parkbaan, met heel vriendelijk personeel.

Één green waren ze aan het herstellen wat ook direct werd aangegeven en de greenfee is daarop aangepast.

Greens waren zeer goed, eerlijk.

Veel blinde afslagen waarbij moet worden opgelet hoe de slope van de fairway is. Een mooie afslag kan eenvoudig in de struiken eindigen.

Een paar mooie risk and reward holes. Par 4 die in 1x te halen is.

Al met al de moeite waard om op te zoeken.

Great course with good facilities and a very friendly team of pros and staff.

What a great find. I've never heard of this course and neither had my friends despite playing many courses in the area. It is a really well kept course with some good testing holes and a strong finish. Only downside is a bit of shared fairway between 12 & 16 which does things up a bit and confuses first time players.

The clubhouse is modern and the food available is top notch and reasonably priced.

Well worth a visit and we will return.
