Moortown Golf Club
Über Moortown Golf Club
Founded in 1909, Moortown was designed by the World famous golf course architect Dr Alister MacKenzie. As a most traditional club with high standards both on the course and in the clubhouse, seasoned golfers will truly enjoy the complete golf experience offered at Moortown. We offer first-class facilities in the clubhouse, a well-stocked pro-shop, excellent and complimentary warm-up areas and our top 100 MacKenzie designed championship golf course. It's great to combine Alwoodley and Moortown GC, as they are only half a mile apart and their histories remain intertwined.

Moortown Golf Club, offers a memorable golfing experience, ensure you visit the club house and view it's historical ties to the 1929 Ryder Cup. I appreciated the courtesy range balls and excellent practice facilities. The course itself was well setup and challenging, especially due to the fast greens that made scoring tough. Some of the blind tee shots were tricky for newcomers, requiring precise aim. Overall, Moortown is a must-visit for golfers seeking a historic yet challenging course.

Excellent course. On my first visit (in an open competition a few years ago) i found it super tough at 6,890 yards, par 71, with many par fours being well over 400 yards... playing with friends from tees of the day more recently it was certainly more playable for someone with slightly limited length off the tee.
Superbly designed by Dr McKenzie with cheekily placed hazards & clever use of angles creating a number of illusions & a fun challenge. It starts with a short par 5 but thereafter you need to bring a good long game, be confident & on form with your putter as the greens are a real challenge. A heathland / moorland classic that we all enjoyed greatly. My favourite hole was the par 3 after the halfway stop but there any many excellent holes.

Played Moortown in an Open event with 3 mates. Very impressed from the minute we arrived with the welcome in the Pro shop and the excellent clubhouse. Great practice facilities before we started our round. As with a number of courses there has been a significant amount of trees removed across the course and we thought it looked great. Some very challenging holes, the toughest for me is the Par 4 2nd hole and my favourite is the Par 3 straight after the halfway house, which provides great sausage rolls! Lots of Ryder Cup memorabilia to review after your round and a trip here is not to be missed.
