Laguna National Golf & Country Club

I frequently transit via and/or stay in Singapore for business. Unfortunately, almost all the clubs are members-only (+member guests). Thus, this great city is a frustrating place for a traveling golfer. I had Laguna on my bucket list for a long while, so I stayed in the hotel to be able to play with a ‘stay&play’ package. Even for that, there is a limitation; hotel guests can only play on the day of the night they stay. If you arrive in the evening, you cannot play in the morning that you check out. I am staying 3 nights, therefore no issue for me. So… what do you expect when you are booked on one of SG’s best golf courses? Everything is super organized! While I was checking in at the hotel, the receptionist reminded me my tee-time at Masters Course. After breakfast, Pro Shop is just next door. Once you show up there, you walk a bit further and you are with the Caddy Master and Starter. There was once a driving range nearby but not anymore due to some new buildings etc. I just practiced some putts and were offered by the Starter to begin from back-9. Like vast majority of Singaporeans, staff members seemed professional, polite and very serious. When a green keeper offered me second hand balls on 11th fairway, that was the only moment I remembered I was still in Southeast Asia :) Like the other reviewers, I also played the Masters course. The condition was great. Tee-boxes had few divots and all were filled with seeded sand. Fairways were mostly like carpet. The only thing less then perfect were the greens. They probably went thru maintenance lately, so there were sand remains. The course is flat. Most holes are played straight; no serious doglegs, maybe only a couple with small angles. However, large lakes which border many fairways and greens, plus many bunkers make the course complicated. Without them, this great course could be boring; with them it is very catching but quite challenging. Another catching element is the endless number of airplanes flying over the course and landing at Changi Airport every two minutes. This was the first time I played under airplanes, so I caught some on photos and shared here. For the members of the club, it was just everyday scene, so they did not even look up. I will repeat what other reviewers already wrote: If you find opportunity to play at Laguna, you have to take it.

Campo junto al aeropuerto de Singapur, se trata de un Resort con 2 campos de golf que incluye hotel. La semana que viene se jugará la prueba del European tour en el campo Classic. Juego el mammstere, no es demasiado largo pero con greenes con varias plataformas y muchos obstáculos de agua que cualquier error del tee de salida te penaliza así que lleva bolas suficientes para no quedarte sin ellas. Te recomiendo que vayas con el booking hecho por su gran demanda. Fui 1h antes pero no fui al range porque me dijo un marsahll que estaba lejos así que me quedé en el putting green.

Startzeit konnte ich mit etwas Glück über einen Bekannten bekommen, spielen ist dort nur mit einem Mitglied möglich. Wir konnten uns gleich morgens eine der ersten Startzeiten sicher um 7:11 Uhr. Ankunft am Club, direkt am Bag Drop alles ganz easy, kurz eingecheckt im großen Pro Shop - direkt hinten dran befindet sich die Umkleide für den Golf Course. Dann kurz vor dem Start erstmal noch einen Starbucks Coffee zu mitnehmen, bisschen geputtet und los geht es. Platzzustand: Vom Abschlag, über die Fairways bis zu den Grüns war alles in einem sehr guten Zustand. Platzdesign: 7471 Yards von den Back Tees sind natürlich schon eine ordentliche Nummer, also sucht euch den richigen Abschlag um Spaß zu haben. Irgendwie haben mir Loch 2 & 3 gleich sehr gut gefallen, hier spielt man bei jedem Loch über einen "Fluss" und besonders am Ende nochmal das Par 3 die 17. Also wir haben wie eigentlich fast alle im 4er Flight gespielt, wird hier immer alles aufgefüllt. Trotzdem waren wir in ca. 1:30 mit den ersten 9 durch, was allerdings bedeutete dass wir noch knapp 20 Minuten warten mussten, da von Tee 1 und 10 gleichzeitig gestartet wird. Es gibt eine Morning & Afternoon Session und einen zum Sonnenuntergang für 9 Loch. Nach der Runde habe ich hier noch etwas Zeit verbracht um bis zu meinem Abflug zu warten, der Platz ist wirklich sehr nah am Flughafen, man hört sie immer wieder die Flugzeuge irgendwann hört man sie allerdings nicht mehr. Direkt angeschlossen ist hier auch ein Hotel mit einem Pool und weiteren Anlagen. Falls man die Möglichkeit hat, sollte man diese nutzen und hier eine Runde spielen.

fantastische golfbaan met 2 x 18 holes, ik heb de 18 holes master gespeeld. Verplicht met buggy alleen gestart, na 2 holes verder gespeeld (ivm vele wachten) met 2 Japanners wat erg gezellig bleek. Super mooie lay-out en super onderhouden baan, snelle en uitdagende greens, af en toe komt er een vliegtuig over, na afloop massage geboekt. Huurclubs matig…

The Masters courses is a flat, modern golf course with lots of water & sand. Fun to play, we enjoyed swinging our clubs there with sun on our backs. It is right on the flight path & whilst this was fun for a bit the constant roar of incoming aircraft grew a little tiresome by the end. Would happily play again if in Singapore. There was building work going on around the clubhouse when we were there, sounded like big plans.
