Headingley Golf Club

De openingshole op Headingley is verrassend. Een blinde slag en als die net ver genoeg is rolt die tot vlak voor een slootje direct aan de green. Grote vraag is wel of je dan eerst hole 2 moet afslaan of hole 1 moet putten. Daarna is het vooral opletten voor de schuine hellingen op de baan. Zeker 4 holes gaan van rechts boven naar links onder. Al moeilijk genoeg om de bal in de baan te houden, laat staan het slaan met een schuine ligging.

De laatste twee holes zijn daarna wel de catchers. Een fraai aangelegde par 3 gevolgd door een par-4 waar je een over een vallei moet slaan.

We were looking forward to an exciting round of golf in the Yorkshire hilly surroundings.

First disappointment was that there was no driving range (a new now being constructed).

Shame, one should have informed us when booking from abroad.

There were 3 hilly holes (1,2,9) the rest was FLAT.

The course crosses the country roads on 2 places, which we found dangerous.

All in all this was the least (by far) of the 3 courses we played in 3 days.

Less exciting and by far the most expensive.

The caddy master was a kind fellow but that does not compensate it.

Quality course on the very north edge of Leeds - course very varied with a great selection of challenging holes. There are 3 testing Par 5's with 4 Par 3's with a good variety of challenging Par 4's The course is usually in very good condition even through winter where Headingley is often open when its neighbours are closed due to waterlogged courses. Good bar with one of the best over course views in Yorkshire. All in all worthy of a visit.

This is a very fine parkland layout, housing firm running fairways, with even a hint of heathland towards the far end of the course. The par is 71, SSS 72 and the maximum yardage 6,575.

In a completely rural setting the course benefits from many wonderful views and has several memorable holes which make full use of the varied and dramatic terrain.

Headingley is definitely a course you should seek out and play if heading to Yorkshire. It isn’t in the same class as nearby Alwoodley, Moortown or Sand Moor but it’s not too far behind the last of that trio and certainly makes for a highly rewarding days golf.
