Grafarholt Golf Course - Golfklúbbur Reykjavíkur

Grafarholt fue diseñado en 1934.

Su nombre se lo debe a la granja que había en el terreno a principios de siglo XX.

Es un club privado, donde los socios se registran al llegar, electrónicamente en una pantalla para dar constancia de que han ido a jugar.

Teniendo la ciudad de Reykjavík de fondo, este campo es una opción estupenda para jugar cuando se tienen unos días en la capital de Islandia.

El “Old Course” tiene alguna que otra cuesta, y la misma calle está llena de agujeros debido a las heladas de invierno. Al ser un terreno lleno de rocas, éstas son empujadas a la superficie cuando el suelo de la calle se endurece y hace que no estén planas ni uniformes.

Los Greenes no son muy grandes, pero es un campo que permite disfrutar al hándicap alto.

El hándicap bajo también lo puede pasar bien ya que hay varias salidas que incitan a acortar sobre rocas y arbustos desde blancas, por lo que es interesante. La arena de los búnkers es dura, pero al menos no tienen ningún tipo de talud.

La primera vuelta es par 35, convirtiendo al campo en un par 71.

Lo más impresionante

- Las vistas a La Capital de Islandia; Se ve Reykjavík de fondo y la impresionante catedral sobre los demás edificios.

- El nuevo campo de prácticas: se puede dar bolas desde tres pisos: dos cubiertos y uno arriba del todo. El tamaño es inmenso y tienen el nuevo sistema de track-man incorporado.

El hoyo con mejores vistas

- Probablemente el tee del hoyo 10, ya que está en alto y se ve el mar y la ciudad de fondo.

- El hoyo 15 también tiene vistas bonitas. Es uno de los más interesantes ya que es el hándicap 2 e incita a pegar un buen drive para llegar de dos en este par cinco.

La tienda es pequeña y no tiene mucha oferta de ropa, gorras, etc.

Los carros manuales son un poco antiguos.

La casa club tiene una cristalera muy grande con vistas bonitas.

Algunos hoyos se meten entre las colinas, y es interesante jugar con tanta roca y lava en este país.

Los socios son encantadores y suele tener muchos jugadores, incluso entre semana a primera hora.

Grafarholt was designed in 1934.

It's name comes from the farm that was on the land at the beginning of the 20th century.

It is a private club, where members register when they arrive, electronically on a screen to give proof that they have shown to play. They do not need to pay for the round since it's included in the membership.

Having the city of Reykjavík in the background, this course is a great option to play when you have a few days in the capital of Iceland!

The "Old Course" is quite hilly, and the fairways are full of little holes due to the rocks/stones that have been pushed up from the winter frost.

The Greens are not very big, but it is a course that allows the high handicapper to enjoy a great round,

The scratch players can also make the course challening by teeing off from the back tees and "going for it", by trying to cut some distance over the hazards.

The front nine is par 35, making the course par 71.

Most impressive

- The views to The Capital of Iceland; Reykjavík is seen in the background and the impressive cathedral above the other buildings.

- The new driving range: quite big (three levels) and the new built-in track-man system.

The hole with the best views

- Probably the tee of hole 10, since it is high up and the ocean is in the background.

- The 15th hole also has nice views. It is one of the most interesting since it is the handicap 2 and motivates to hit a good drive to reach this par five in two.

The pro-shop is slighly small and does not have much supply of clothes, caps, etc. but is still cozy.

Manual cars are a bit old.

The clubhouse has a very large window with nice views.

The members are quite nice.

Un parcours très agréable à découvrir. Vallonné avec de beaux points de vues- techniquement intéressant car des trous très variés. Un parcours sur lequel on sort tous ses clubs. Fairways et équipements très bien entretenus. Des greens magnifiques et rapides. A 10mn du centre de la capitale. Un Club House accueillant avec un bar-restaurant pratiquant des tarifs très correct pour l'Islande. Un green tee un peu élevé 10.300 Couronnes (Plus de 80€!) pour 18 trous (Tarifs réduits de 50% pour les seniors de +65 ans le matin avant 10h et pour les jeunes). Réservation obligatoire. A faire absolument lors de votre passage à Reykjavik.

De zogenaamd tweede baan van IJsland vandaag gespeeld. De uitstraling van het clubhuis was van een professionaliteit die wat deed verwachten: er bleken goed voorzieningen om te oefenen, dubbele verdieping afslag drivingrange, bijvoorbeeld. Dat gaf verwachtingen. Die zijn helaas helemaal niet waargemaakt. De fairways waren slecht, vaak kaal en grasloos. De greens waren alle 18 verschillend in kwaliteit, in snelheid en in onderhoud. De teeboxen waren regelmatig met kuilen of erg scheef. De lay-put is aardig met af en toe een kijkje op Reykjavik.

Een baan om snel te vergeten.

We speelden met een IJslands stel die lid zijn van Keilir: mogelijk de mooiste IJslandse baan? Zij waren erg te spreken over hun eigen baan, ook qua onderhoud en ook zij vonden deze baan slecht (onderhouden)

Grafarholt is considered to be one of Iceland's principal golf courses. There is a large sign at the entrance of the golf club announcing that you have arrived at the golf club, something which we did not seen anywhere else on the island. Practice facilities are excellent with a large three-story driving range and multi-area chipping and putting greens. The clubhouse probably is the biggest in Iceland. It has all necessary facilities, even two restaurants.

In contrast to other clubs in Iceland, there is a starter (or caddymaster) who gets everyone off on time, adding a professional dimension to the experience. But, this is also necessary, being the busiest golf club in Iceland. Like Keilir, it’s a very busy course with nearly every flight consisting of four players. The course is inland-course, with great height elevations and a good variety of interesting holes. However, the views over Reykjavik will not be as inspiring as some of the more natural views offered from other courses.

Grafarholt is a tough but fair test, which all level of golfers will enjoy. A sign of a good design.
