Modry Las Golf Club

There are around 40 golf courses in Poland. Only about 7,000 players are registered, but reportedly up to 30,000 play outside of the registry. Still, that's not many for a country of 40 million. You'll find interesting courses around Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Kraków. And then there's this course, designed by the Black Knight, Gary Player. The owner had to show great courage. From this perspective, it seems like a bold idea to build a top-notch, somewhat different course in a totally non-golfing country in the middle of nowhere 25 years ago. "My parents told me to invest in land. So I bought 130 hectares from a bankrupt agricultural cooperative and gradually built this," adds owner Arthur Gromadzki. Most of the course is wedged between two large natural lakes, although water does not play a major role in the game. The first hole looks difficult, with trees along the lake on the right and a raised cascading green with its front edge. And then there's the second hole! This is where the raised and high edges of the bunkers first appear. They are typical of many holes on the course and a little intimidating. From the fifth hole, the course opens up a bit. The ninth hole takes you back near the clubhouse along the driving range. The second part begins with a short and playable par 4 (283 m from the yellow tees) and introduces a more pleasant second half of the course. The 15th, a par 3 played over water with a deeply cut bunker at the edge, is beautiful. The last hole is a par 5, a right dogleg along the lake with a green in front of the clubhouse. "The fifteenth is the most interesting hole for most visitors, for me it's the second and for Gary Player it's the 16th," explains Mr. Gromadzki. The entire round is marked by complete silence. "The forests take on a blue-green hue in late autumn, which is why I chose the poetic name Blue Forest for the resort," adds the owner. It opened in 2009, with the clubhouse completed in 2018. Currently, 60% of visitors are from Poland, followed by a strong group from Germany and Scandinavia. Modrý Las is worth a stop on your way to northwestern Poland or, more importantly, as a multi-day event with accommodation. The resort offers a total of 62 beds spread between rooms on the first floor of the clubhouse and several comfortably furnished cottages hidden in the woods along the fairways. Prices for 2 nights and 3 days of unlimited golf during the week start at €299, including accommodation, breakfast, a cart, and balls for the driving range. The daily green fee is €65 from Monday to Thursday and €79 from Friday to Sunday. The course is open from April to October, depending on the weather. The nearest major airport is Berlin, a 2.5-hour drive away. It is an hour's drive from the smaller airport in Szczecin. The course is called PGA National Poland and belongs to a small group of European courses with this designation. Only nine courses in Europe have this prestigious brand. License holders must meet a number of conditions in order to boast this designation.

Wij hebben een arrangement met slapen, dineren, en 18 holes spelen met buggy. De baan is zeer fraai aangelegd en wordt beschouwd als de nr 1 baan van Polen. De baan is over het algemeen licht heuvelachtig met een paar leuke uitdagende holes. De GPS werkt buitengewoon slecht en als invalide kan je gewoon zeer moeilijk bij je geslagen ballen komen. Bij de 2 e 9 heb ik gevraagd aan de receptie om de gps uit te schakelen en dat was reuze fijn. De kamer met ontbijt is zeer fraai en kost 165€ 18 holes ca 90€ en de buggy 38€ De baan ligt op 70km van Stettin in een prachtige omgeving. De bewegwijzering was moeilijk vanwege dat de holegegevens op de grond zijn geplaatst en dat betekent zoeken .

What an experience. This course is outstanding in almost every way, from the winding hilly fairways with crests overlooking raised greens and bunkers perched into the hills, to the putting surfaces ready to reject any bad shots into the surrounding cuts of rough. The design of this course is amazing. The holes are beautifully carved through hilly woodland next to Radun lake. which could come into play with a wayward drive or approach. Though the weather was far from ideal, with rain and howling winds. It was an absolute pleasure to play this gem. There is little bad to be said about this course, each hole memorable in its own right. If you are ever in this area, this course is a must. But don't waste your time playing the 9 holer par 3 Orli Las, which is in disrepair.

Het terrein bevat potentieel en is een zeer uitdagende baan voor elke golfer

Kans op balverlies is zeer groot, bij teveel afwijking kom je in de hoge rough en heb je prijs

Egaal afgereden en een soms diffuse lijn met de apron

Jammer genoeg waren ze enkele dagen geprikt dus kunnen we geen mening geven over de greens

Aanwezig met GPS

Deze van onze buggy had kuren, we reden over het pad naar hole 01 en we kregen al een waarschuwing dat we te dicht bij de tee waren en enkel achteruit verder konden We zijn hole 01 tees in achteruit moeten benaderen

Soms geen waarschuwing als je naast een tee kwam dan wel weer

Dan waarschuwing voor de green op een afstand van 50m dat je het pad moet volgen om een hindernis te ontwijken maar je kan aan de andere kant niet terug naar je bal…

Op de duur begin je daar mee te ergeren aan iets wat je niets aan kan doen

Een terugkomer waardig?

Al met al is dit complex is een verborgen juweeltje dat toekomst heeft, spijtig genoeg zeer afgelegen maar als je in de buurt bent zeker spelen, je gaat er geen spijt van krijgen.

Men kan er ook overnachten en zo kan je er 2X van genieten alvorens je weg te vervolgen

Vele golfers van UK, Denen en Finnen landen daar in de nabijheid, huren een busje en rijden dan 2.5 u tot deze golf om dan voor 2 dagen of meer deze fantastische golf te spelen.

After a long trip from Vilnius, Lithuania, we arrived here in the West of Poland. We had a stay in the clubhouse, which is just all you need and very convenient.

This was my second visit to Modry Las, and it was still just as good as previous time. A wonderful course in a beautiful peaceful environment. I will always have Modry Las in the top 100 of Continental Europe, and for me it is the best in Poland.

This club does worry me. It's in a somewhat remote area, and I really think they struggle to get members and greenfee players. When we were there they said "Just go out whenever you're ready. '' But for the moment it doesn't seem to effect their budget, course is in very good shape.

I recommend a visit to Poland, and then Modry Las cannot be missed.
