A faire

An extensive "championship" golf course – together with Kaskáda, the only two courses of this type in the entire region of South Moravia. However, it is different in character – it was built on rugged terrain with significant elevation changes and, in some areas, long transitions between holes, which makes it more challenging. It is undoubtedly one of the most physically demanding courses in the whole country, so consider renting a buggy. My impressions of the course are mostly positive (I played it twice – in 2013 and this summer) – mainly thanks to the beautiful views and panoramas from the middle part of the course (where the holes go either up or down, no flat terrain). However, I found the upper part of the course in the open space to be rather dull, even boring, with a links-style layout and almost no trees. The lower part near the club and castle is flat, with more water features. So it's three in one – there's something for everyone. The holes are also quite challenging, making it one of the more difficult courses. The quality and maintenance of the playing surfaces were totally fine when I visited. The resort also has adequate training areas, a clubhouse with a restaurant, and accommodation. I didn't use those. I thought the price for a round was reasonable; it's definitely not one of the more expensive courses. A special feature is its proximity to the beautiful Slavkov Castle, whose castle park has a 6-hole golf academy that functions as a public course. I don't know how it works, but it could be beautiful. Overall, it is a very nice golf course at a reasonable price. However, it is physically demanding, but it is worth a visit.

I receive an invitation to play a tournament there, so I took the opportunity since I did not play the course for the last 10 years. It's a bit difficult to reach the course these days since the construction in the city. Austerlitz offers nice accommodation directly at course, so very convenient. The parking lot is not big, but there is another one next to the driving range, which by the way is quite big and there is a lot of opportunities to practice. Staff there is very friendly and pleasant to talk to. Now to the course, its quite hilly links course, where the clubhouse is located on one of the hills. The opening hole is easy par 5 with downhill shot, water is easy to clear. You can try to reach the green in 2. As it is a links course it means not many trees and therefore you can hit it really hard. Roughs were not so thick and easy to find balls. On hole 4 starts the climbing adventure. Not sure if I like that kind of shots but I played well there. I remember few holes but the design is not my cup of tea :D. The signature hole with a great view is par 3 hole number 12. You will see the surroundings and have great look down on the castle. Finishing on the 18th hole uphill next to the clubhouse. The catering was very tasty and refreshment with beer after the game even better. The quality of the course was good, greens were rolling quite fast and true lines. Fairways just average. The worst part was the showers, they need really some upgrade. I can recommend the course if you like no trees courses.
