Gut Apeldör

Mittlerweile gibt es keinen 18- und 9-Loch-Platz, sondern 3x 9Loch die tageweise in eine große und eine kleine Runde aufgeteilt werden. Der Platz hat ein anhängiges Hotel, was auch für auswärtige Gäste sehr interessant ist. Heute war alles, wie fast immer in der Saison, in gutem Zustand. Leider ist auf halber Strecke ein dickes Unwetter durchgezogen. Das Personal ist immer sehr nett. Wir hatten heute mehrfach sehr gute Gespräche mit dem Marshal. Das Einzige, was ausbaufähig ist, ist das Essen, bzw. die Speisekarte auf der Terrasse.

Gut Apeldör opened on a calm day mid april after months with continous rainshowers, and it showed. Fairways hardly cut at all and if you weren't careful either yourself or your golfball might be lost to the soggy fairways forever. Understandably greens weren't in the best shape either as cutting anything in these extremely wet conditions is borderline impossible. I think the maintenance staff deserve a big applause for the enormous workload they put in to making a course and site this wet somewhat playable. The conditions aside though this course does have something to offer, there are interesting holes. Among those the 9th on the yellow loop and the 7th on the green loop. Where the course falters though is the design which I have to say is somewhat forgettable or rather repetitive. Every hole dare I say, bar perhaps the par 5 second on the yellow is a hole designed within the architectural style of penal golf. You have to hit the shot and if you don't, you will be penalised. I miss some holes with strategic or heroic value where your mind must be put to the test. Otherwise this course is a pleasant one and I might very well come back once the weather makes a turn for the better.
