Devil's Paintbrush - Devil's Pulpit Golf Association

A Wonderful golfing experience was had at the Paintbrush. As I am very familiar with Scottish and Irish links golf it was quite amazing to see the terrain of this golf course. Both the front nine and the back nine have rolling mounds throughout each hole.

This is definitely a course where playing it more than once would be an advantage. The course demands accuracy off the tee and well placed approach shots (landing the ball on the green was not always the right play).

The bunkering on the course is very reminiscent of the bunkers of the true links courses of Scotland in Ireland. The par five 11th hole is reachable with a good drive, but the green is guarded by two twin pot, bunkers similar to the large Spectacle Bunkers at Carnoustie but much smaller in size.

The staff are very friendly and the course provides a good challenge. I look forward to playing again in the near future.

A meticulously maintained private club, the courses were designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, the architects behind the 2017 US Open venue, Erin Hills. The Devil's Pulpit is a parkland layout; the Devil's Paintbrush is a links-style course. The courses are about ten minutes from each other, tucked into protected Niagara escarpment land about 45 minutes northwest of Toronto. You play through forest and countryside --there are no homes on either track.

A massive amount of land was moved to create the Devil's Pulpit. It is a 'big course' with long, intimidating holes winding through dense forest. Both the first and 18th are tough par fours that stretch to close to five hundred yards from the tips.

In contrast, the Devil's Paintbrush was routed through rolling hills and natural fescue grasses with minimal changes to the natural landscape. Stone fences and even homestead ruins are features on the course. I've made several trips to Ireland. The Paintbrush is the closest I've seen to Irish golf in North America (but I have yet to play Cabot Links!)

The courses share two features: wildly undulating, near perfect greens, and an abundance of deep, menacing bunkers. Visually, it both are spectacular.
