Kauri Cliffs

Zeventiende golfbaan van mijn reis door Nieuw Zeeland. Kauri Cliffs golfcourse is voor mij een absolute must play als je in de buurt bent. het is van begin tot eind een spektakel stuk. Het begint al met de onverharde weg die je over moet en wat je laat denken. Waar kom ik in godsnaam terecht maar als je dan ook arriveert zie je gelijk dat dit een bijzondere plek is. De buggy's staan al klaar voor gebruik op de parkeerplaats. Het clubhuis heeft een soort van koloniale uitstraling met zijn balustrade en veranda. De benedenverdieping omvat de mooie proshop waar je uiteraard het niet kan laten om weer wat herinneringen aan te schaffen. Buiten staat een kleine caravan waarin je alles kan krijgen voor de innerlijke mens. broodjes. drank, burgers, salades. Alles kan je meenemen in de baan als je wil. De drivingrange ligt op loopafstand en je slaat ballen vanaf hoogte naar beneden. De snelle oefengreen bevindt zich vlak voor het clubhuis. Als je dan warm bent kan je beginnen aan dit spektakel stuk. Vanaf hole 1 tot en met 18 zal je getest worden maar oh oh oh wat is het een fun om op deze manier getest te worden. De baan was nog wat nat van de vele regen die was gevallen de afgelopen tijd maar dat kon de pret niet drukken.Prachtige holes waarvan vele met een panoramisch uitzicht volgen elkaar op. Omlaag, omhoog. smal, lang, kort. je hebt je hele arsenaal aan golfkunsten nodig om tot een goed score te komen. Na 18 holes ben ik dan ook op maar oh wat ben ik voldaan. Dit was wederom een speciale dag op een speciale baan. Zoek je kwaliteit, fun en een uitdaging dan zal Kauri cliffs je niet teleurstellen. Een absolute must als je in de buurt bent!

I have played more than 150 courses and I’d rate Kauri cliffs at the very top.

The Matauri bay in the backdrop (15 holes have a view on the Pacific Ocean) makes KC incredibly scenic.

Not too holes are the same and some design options are playing with your head (uphill 9 and 18). The most incredible feature is the quality of the putting surfaces, fast but fair, with vast greens offering variety of pin positions.

The weather was sunny but with gusty winds up to 60 km/h…. but despite this, KC the as playable and one of the most enjoyable experience I had on a golf course. Very well done to the superintendent and team, they are doing an amazing job.

What an honor to have played at Kauri Cliffs last year in December. Great location and spectacular Cliff top course on New Zealand North Island.
