Royal Queensland GC. Brisbane. Queensland.
10 minutes from the Brisbane International airport.
One of Australia's premier golf courses nestled along the Brisbane river and underneath the famed Gateway bridge.
The course is fairly flat, with beautiful wide open fairways that can have an illusion from the tee of which line was the correct one, members helped with providing answers to this information. Some holes are tree lined which gives a parkland feel to the course.
Outstanding and controversial green complexes, great bunkering throughout, especially around the greens, easy to hit out of and no real difference throughout showcasing good consistency.
RQ had it's most recent updates occur in 2006/07 by OCCM.
The front nine goes around what you could say is the perimeter of the property, and the home nine occupying the central section of the land. The course has a fairly standard routing, though with good directional change still occurring, the course has a similar amount of holes left to right, and right to left for you second shot in. Good variety on all the types of Par lengths which enhances the overall picture of the course.
One thing that stood out for me was the small one percenters around the course was the sand boxes, bins, memorials to members who had passed, water stations and the neat halfway house. Oh and the flags on the green, that's correct "flags", they use a double flag system which represents RQ in nastic terms, one is yellow and the one below it is a yellow cross on a red background.
Tyson.
