The number of cars in the car park is often a good indicator of how busy the course will be when you arrive at a new venue. Takapuna was no exception as we trudged back from the overflow car park to the pro shop. Busy busy. Not everyone likes being paired up with another two ball. It’s routine at this public course so be warned. Having said that our two ball were very pleasant to play with. The course is a little rough round the edges but decent enough for a mere 20 minute drive from Auckland CBD. Recommended for a short notice round if you’re passing through.

Bij aankomst valt op dat er op de parkeerplaats veel zwerfvuil ligt. Dat Is geen goede eerste indruk. Omdat we samen met onze gastheer om 5 uur s’ochtends de eerste gasten zijn is de receptie en het clubhuis nog gesloten. We maken ook geen gebruik van de oefenfaciliteiten dus geen oordeel over deze onderdelen. Het is een pay and play baan van de gemeente. Een zeer druk bezochte baan direct aan de snelweg gelegen dus niet stil. De baan is niet spectaculair. Redelijk eenvoudig waarbij de ligging van de 2e 9 holes mooier is dan de eerste 9. Er staan wel veel mooie, grote bomen op het terrein. Weinig waterhindernissen weinig bunkers. Een baar waar heel vlot gespeeld kan worden. De teeboxen zijn ruim. De fairways wisselend van grasbestand. De greens zijn goed en hard. Een zeer goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding.
