Rio de Janeiro Olympic
About Rio de Janeiro Olympic
Designed by American golf course architect Gil Hanse, the 970,000m² facility was set to play host to many of the world’s top players during the 2016 Olympics. Since then it is used to help increase public participation in the sport in Brazil. Built entirely with private funding, the 18-hole Rio 2016 Olympic Golf Course, which includes facilities for 15,000 spectators, was unveiled by the city government at a ceremony in Barra da Tijuca, not far from the main Olympic Park. The challenging course includes two artificial lakes, and a host of other features and obstacles that bring the best out of golfers.

Links type golf course, at the same time challenging and rewarding. Par 71 in 7300yd course by Gil Hanse. Great opportunity to play golf on the course that hosted the women's and men's Rio 2016 Olympics tournaments. Few and negligible weaknesses.

Playing golf at the Olympic Course of Rio just before the carnaval week was a special experience. Took the metro to the Jardim Oceanico station and from there a taxi to Bara da Tijuca. It took us a while to find the entrance because there are no signs to direct you to the course. Once you leave the taxi you have to figure out what to do... The left building is the caddiemaster and driving range... NOT the reception. They will offer their services. You have to go to the building straight ahead. There you will find a nice lady from Spain who speaks all the languages and she will explain everything. In the proshop you can rent decent clubs, buy a shirt (to show off back home haha) and driving range tokens and of course pay for your greenfee and buggy. There was only a vending machine... I didn't see a restaurant or bar.
After collecting the buggy from the caddy and being out where to start I was on my own... literally.
There was nobody on the course... the scorecard with map was my guide. From start 'till finish I did not see a single person. The course is excellent and in perfect condition with fast greens and very well-maintained despite some stories I read on the internet. I highly recommend this course!
