Royal Zoute Golf Club

On my way back to Amsterdam the day after a wedding, I was in two minds about whether or not to stop at Royal Zoute but I am very glad I did. Having played Royal Ostend a few days prior I was expecting something similar but it wasn’t the case. Situated in the heart of Knokke, you don’t get the feeling you’re in the middle of a town. It is so peaceful and tranquil. The property features two courses, the Championship which was the one I played and the Executive course. The design is incredibly well laid out as both intertwine and you’re able to get a good glimpse of one from the other. Starting in front of the impressive, grand clubhouse the course looks relatively straight forward. The starting few holes are lined by tall pine and birch trees and then as you slowly get into the round you start to see all the undulations, fairways the gentle drift in one direction or another with large green complexes at the end full of their own contours. Although not right on the coast you’re still susceptible to strong winds which provide an added dimension to how you play the course. For being in the middle of summer it was in really good condition, I was surprised how they’d still managed to keep the fairways relatively soft and not completely baked out. Playing late on a Sunday I was expecting the clubhouse to be quiet but it was abuzz with people drinking and enjoying the sunshine. Great course, definitely worth a visit and I’ll come back and play the executive course one day as well.

Deze klassieke baan in het voorjaar nog in topconditie gespeeld en deze vond ik de baan deze keer toch in een mindere staat ondanks de wisselende weersomstandigheden. Desalniettemin blijft deze baan een absoluut plezier om te spelen. Even verposen aan het halfway house is altijd een plezier!

Twee keer de Championship course gespeeld. Wat een pracht van Colt baan. Schitterende holes en mooi ontwerp. Kwaliteit van de greens was goed. Fairways en afslagplaatsen kunnen zeker beter. En jammer van al die lelijke paden die de hele baan doorkruizen en soms zelfs van kunstgras zijn. Maar de lay out is heel erg goed. Vriendelijke ontvangst en relaxe sfeer. Prijs is aanzienlijk maar in combinatie met een hotelovernachting weer aantrekkelijk. Aanrader!

Royal Zoute is een van mijn favorieten dus de verwachtingen zijn hoog als ik er ga spelen. De lay out vind ik persoonlijk top. Het onderhoud kan beter, ik heb de baan al veel beter weten zijn in mei. Greens waren een aanfluiting voor wat ze normaal zijn. Super traag en heel hobbelig. Zoute kan veel beter dan dit, hopelijk komen ze terug op niveau!

Knokke blijft een plezier en een uitdaging om te spelen. Helaas zijn de greens voor een terrein van deze allure van een droevige kwaliteit 😒 de pittige greenfee van 150 zeker niet gerechtvaardigd op dit moment
