Keilir Golf

Keilir GC har under flera år anordnat några av de större tävlingarna på Island. Parkeringen ligger i direkt anslutning till Klubbhuset vilket gör det enkelt att nå. Från klubbhuset går det att njuta av den vackra utsikten över både banan och havet. Bra mat och god öl i restaurangen. Förvånansvärt prisvärt mat också i ett övrigt dyrt land att äta ute i! Första 9 och sista 9 skiljer sig avsevärt. Första 9 gäller det att slå rakt, är du utanför ruffen så ligger din boll på torkad lava och det går ej att slå, helt magiskt upplevelse som satte spelet på prov! Sista 9 är istället en vanlig links bana som leder dig ner till gamla fiskebyn i närheten. Första och sista 9 håller bra standard. Banan rekommenderas!

Typischer Linkskurs mit einigen Bahnen entlang der Küste. Wenn Wind ins Spiel kommt sollte man eher defensiv spielen. Trotzdem ist am Tag vorher durch geregnet hat die Grüns sehr gut bespielbar.

Een geweldige ervaring: golfen tussen de lavavelden, met een werkende vulkaan (weliswaar ver weg) op de achtergrond. Een moeilijke baan, zeker als je met gehuurde clubs speelt. Precisie is zeker op de eerste 9 holes cruciaal. We waren blij met de twee clubleden die als onze flightgenoten ons veel konden adviseren.

Ontvangst overal zeer vriendelijk. Mooie drivingrange, puttinggreen ; de toekomst van het ijslandse golf is verzekerd, gezien het groepje (zeer) jonge kinderen dat hier op een speelse manier les had.

Kortom: we komen hier graag nog eens terug.

Keilir is located just 20 minutes from downtown Reykjavik in the direction of the Kevlavik international airport. The front nine are totally surrounded by black lava stones. So basically the fairways and greens are bordered by rocky lava formations where you don't want to be with a golfball! The contrast however is beautiful and conservative play is required. Because the rough is predominantly made out of lava stone the designers didn't put any bunkers or other hazards on the first nine, just some water on eight and nine.

What I really liked on the first nine was the natural combination of the green fairways and the black lava. The drives over the lava and greens tucked away behind a black wall of hostile rocks it just really gives this course a special feel.

The back nine is totally different, it's all green and lots of bunkers (some very deep pot bunkers) and very open. Design wise I like these holes on the back nine a bit more than the first. It starts with a massive par 3 with OOB on the left (wind predominantly from the right) hole 11 is a beautiful short dogleg left on the cliffs. (do not miss the green left!) 12 an almost driveable par 4 They just re-did 3 holes from 13-15 and although 13 is a blind spectacular shot it's a bit too much because you don't know where to exactly place your tee shot you and up with an other shot where you don't see the green. 14 is nice a long dogleg right over the harbor where you can decide what your driving distance is and go for it! 15 a short par 3 with a nasty bunker on the right. 16 a quite long par 5 where again the long drivers are tempted to go for maximum distance. 17 is a bit odd totally blind teeshot and a tricky green. 18 takes you home careful for the little ditch.

So to sum up the first nine very impressive due to the beautiful combination of black lava and green fairways and greens. The back nine a will designed course with beautiful views and challenging to play.

A very special course! 1st nine are played among lavarocks, and different to anything we had ever played before. We were fortunate to be playing with two experienced members who could help guide us, since even with the good course guide, it’s tricky when you have to hit over 120-160m of rocks. Lats nine are different, but still very enjoyable with some new holes with either interesting green areas or challening tee-shots where you are tempted to take a short cut. Clearly recommended course, since you are not likely to find something similar anywhere. We played on an OK weather-day which also helped, I guess. Rain and strong winds might have made it less enjoyable? Nice restaurant, very nice staff in shop and club house, but a quite small shop.
