Amazing experience. This course is settled just outside Barcelona & originally designed by Colt. The greens are fantastic and the holes offer all kind of funk. This is a course you could play all day. The best holes are the par 4, 7th which is a vicious dogleg, the par 3 12th which showcases a well defended green. The halfway house is something out of a movie. Fanatstic club!

GENERAL I visited this course with a Spanish friend who now lives in the Netherlands but grew up here — in a sense, he was raised on these fairways, almost from childhood. A hard nut to crack — not the course, though it can be when you’re off your game — but the man himself. Then again, maybe that’s just Spanish culture: open-hearted, proud, and wrapped in a quiet reserve. In some curious way, the place reminded me of where my own golf journey began — Vossenhole. At least the first four holes did. It was close to the university where I studied: social, quirky, and endlessly instructive. Every round there taught you something about how to play golf — and, perhaps more importantly, how not to. Vossenhole doesn’t exist anymore; a neighborhood now stands where its fairways once lay. Being sentimental, I’d give a lot to play it again. Sant Cugat won’t share that fate, but the city has crept toward it over the years, and two roads now cross the course — quiet reminders that time and progress are never far away. I usually try to keep my reviews objective — ninety percent about the course, ten percent about the context — but that balance didn’t hold this time. Here, the story was inseparable from the golf. The historic story lives in the black-and-white photographs lining the clubhouse walls — legends of the game mid-swing, frozen in postures of confidence and grace. The cultural story is subtler: the bar serving ‘bocadillos’ with local white sausage, a modest tapas section in place of the bitterballen and Mars bars of home. The halfway house could have been lifted straight from Mad Men: clean lines, soft tones, the kind of unassuming 1950s Americana design that suggests both nostalgia and endurance. But the most important story wasn’t architectural or culinary. It was personal — the pride in my friend’s eyes as he walked his home course, as if the grass itself recognized him. MY GAME My swing, these days, is a study in control — though I could use more distance. Fortunately, this course rewards the former more than the latter. I opened with bogeys on one, two, and three, yet still finished a stroke under my handicap. My putting was fine — too cautious, maybe. The courses I’d played before had made me tentative, conditioned me to protect rather than pursue. Here, that felt like a habit worth breaking, yet I ddn’t. Standout Holes It took a few holes for my mind to settle. I had just come from playing vast, ambitious layouts; this one felt smaller, more human, more local. It begins with a short, flat par-4 — straight, tree-lined, and deceptively calm. But the look at the green from the approach immediately tells you what this course is about. The next few holes stay level until, suddenly, the landscape begins to breathe. By the fifth, I could have sworn I was in California. One hole later, unmistakably Spain again. #1 – I hit a solid three-iron off the tee, then caught a flash of green and blue: a flock of parakeets (or parkieten, as we’d say in Dutch) fluttering along the right side of the fairway. My focus drifted to them — a fitting metaphor for a course that rewards precision yet constantly distracts you with its charm. #5 – The fairway leans sharply to the right, funneling everything toward a bunker that seems built to collect optimism. A wedge in hand, you realize the hole’s real defense is geometry. #6 – The mirror image of five. The lie now above your feet, the risk reversed. There’s space to the right, and nowhere to hide if you miss left. #7 – A blind mid-iron downhill, followed by an uphill approach. A playful hole that punishes the greedy and flatters the thoughtful. #8 – 8 – A short par-4 climbing steeply upward. The right club off the tee is essential; from the top, the view of the mountains — and of “el Valles Occedental” — is worth every stroke. #14 – A delicate par-3 that demands surgical precision. #15 – Play the contours, not the air. The approach is uphill to a small, severe green — accuracy is everything. #16 – Echoes of hole five, but more elegant, more at ease with itself. #17 – A par-3 of rare beauty, length and precision, the kind that lingers in your memory long after the round is done. What’s Good - Quirky and full of contrast: exotic birds you’d expect only in a pet shop; parkland holes, links-like moments, and flashes of California, all within one round. - Unapologetically Spanish — in atmosphere, rhythm, and flavor. - Despite its heritage, it remains a genuine community course. - Excellent greens, well maintained. - You’ll never stop learning here. Local knowledge is worth a dozen extra yards. - A warm-up net near the first tee, a proper rangeis also there, and exotic birds that seem to follow you like old friends. - Some of the oldest trees in Catalunya watch over the fairways, quietly approving. What Could (Not) Be Improved - A links-style bunker on the second hole felt oddly out of place — though perhaps there’s a story there my friend could tell. - And there were a few fellow Dutch players on the course, which momentarily broke my illusion of being deep in Spain. No offense intended — they were kind, familiar, and somehow too close to home. Conclusion A charming course just outside Barcelona that tests precision more than power. For me, it also recalled a time when life was lighter — when the measure of a day was laughter, sunlight, and a well-struck shot among friends. Mark Twain once called golf “a good walk spoiled.” That day, it was nothing less than a perfect walk.

Accueil professionnel et sympathique.

This 1914 Harry Colt design used to be on the edge of town in Barcelona. In the last 100+ years it was engulfed by the city resulting in a cool green enclave between the nice houses and apartment buildings. The club is usually very busy with member players (around 250 per day) but has opening for green fee players as well. Due to it's close proximity to the city center it is a great course to play while you visit Barcelona.

The course is relatively short including six par 4's below 300 meters, but it is definitely not an easy course. Exact placement on the fairway is essential to make par and your approach on the not so big greens needs to be in the right spot as well. The fairways are a lot smaller than they appear because of the tree branches that can block high shots.

When we played the bunker sand was in bad shape, very hard and almost impossible to hit a decent shot out of there. That was a pity because the bunkers are very well placed. The rest of the maintenance was very good though with firm fairways & good true greens. This is really a second shot course and in the 90 degrees doglegs a precise tee shot is essential.

There was also a little half way house where you can buy a drink and we got a complimentary bocadillo jamon (crispy bread with cured ham) that tasted great. They don't have 'normal' 2 person buggies here but some players drive around on 1 person scoot mobile's on the undulated course.

Sant Cugat is a hidden gem in my opinion and a definite must play for Colt aficionados, leave the driver in the car and play a nice Match play with your partner, you will have a great day.

The oldest course in Catalunya and with Harry Colt’s design are just two reasons to visit St. Cugat.

One of the most classic and best know clubs and course in Catalunya.

Absolutely located inside the city if Sant Cugat.

Short and tricky course, local knowledge can be super important mostly in the greens and surroundings if youbwantbto score, otherwise it can be too punishing and sometimes look like unfair.

Some blind shots are also in play and two 90° doglegs where you must place the tee shot in the right spot.

There are several beautiful short par fours.

I especially like par 4 holes 1,5,6,11 and 16.

The best hole in my opinion is 3rd, a lovely par 3.

Only 2 par 5’s holes 4 & 18 that they’re also interesting.

The course was in very good shape, specially good greens (as usual) but they have an issue with bunkers.

Almost no sand and hard as concrete.

It’s a pity because the placement and shape of them is really good.

Super kind staff that make you feel really comfortable.

A good place to play golf if you are in Barcelona.
