The Mines Resort & Golf Club

The Mines Golf Club is 30 mins driving distance from KL downtown to South. It is named after the big tin mine it was, before the area was redeveloped. Payment, buggy and caddie arrangement etc. were without any issues. The caddy took me directly to 2nd tee in order to make a fast start. First few holes are located next to a lake. You can enjoy the view there. Across the lake, there are modern high rise buildings. Just as we were driving the buggy in fairway of 3rd hole, we saw a beaver-like animal, probably from the lake, chased by big dogs and running for its life. The back-9 is in the higher land behind the clubhouse. There were some very beautiful lakes and plants on that side Visually, it is a very beautiful course and the layouts of the holes, especially in back-9, are quite nice. My favorite holes is 18th, a downhill drive par-4. At 14th tee, take a look around and enjoy the views. Maintenance and condition of the course seemed average. Clubhouse and restaurant seemed better than Malaysia average.

The Mines is meant to be an exclusive golf club, but the condition of the greens and fairways was not up to par, possibly due to excessive rain.

On a brighter note, the course has an attractive layout with some interesting and beautiful holes.

Strangely, there was a strong and off-putting odor from the lake.

The golf buggy provided was of low quality, with unnecessary features and poor essential functions e.g. rough suspension, instability, and weak acceleration and braking.

Regrettably, the overall experience this time around when compared with 6 months ago was very disappointing.

The Mines is a 25 year old golf course and used in the past also for international competitions. Also this course outside Kuala Lumpur but easy to reach. The course is designed in an area were previously open cast tin mines were located. The metal tin is used often in Malaysia. The course is well maintained and a pleasure to play. The gold tees have a length of 6771 yards and is recommendable. Also here Bermuda greens which are pretty fast.

Because of the temperature early start is recommended also if there are thunder showers/rain it is mostly after 4 o'clock. Nice clubhouse and lunch after the game is recommended.

A truly magnificent golf course. The experience begins in the changing rooms where the lockers have the top pro's names on them from previous events. The course is beautifully maintained, visually stunning and a real test of golf. The 9th hole is the pick with a lofted tee looking out to a gentle dogleg and then a rising fairway up to the clubhouse. Just magnificent.
