Le Brussels Drohme Golf Club

PARKING: Plaats voor een dertigtal wagens pal bij het secretariaat op kiezelsteen. ONTVANGST: Zeer vriendelijk ontvangen , en in het Nederlands uitleg gekregen, niet alleen over golf maar ook over de hippodroom. OEFENGELEGENHEDEN: Ruime moderne drivingrange, Kleinere oefengreen. TEEBOXBORDEN: Ietjes verouderde borden maar wel met noodzakelijke dingen erop , zowel layout van de baan als van de green. TEEBOX: Goede teeboxen. FAIRWAYS: Lagen er goed bij. BUNKERS: Lagen er goed bij. ROUGH:N.V.T. GREENS: Goede greens. OMGEVING: Zeer leuke setting,met fantastische gebouwtjes. EXTRA: Op zo'n beperkte ruimte in een grootstad zo'n mooi beplante/ beboste baan neer kunnen zetten chapeau!!!

In the heart of Brussels lies the Brussels Golf Club, where my golfing journey began in 2014. This charming 9-hole course, recently redesigned, features an attached Golf Academy. I still visit occasionally for lessons with my pro. It's an ideal place to start your golfing adventure. Don't be fooled by the fact that it’s only 9 holes, mostly Par 3s; it requires thoughtful strategy with every shot. The clubhouse offers delicious food, and the practice facilities are excellent.

In de oude hippodroom van Watermaal-Bosvoorde is een toegankelijke 9-holes baan aangelegd. Niet moelijk, niet speciaal. Vroeger werden daar de paardenrennen gehouden van Watermaal-Bosvoorde. Locatie is wat dat betreft best wel uniek en er staan een aantal prachtige bomen op het domein. Leuk om een keer gespeeld te hebben maar geen must.

Mon home club et quel club. Ambiance très convivial. Parcours plus compliqué qu'il n'y paraît. Les personnes qui gèrent le Pro Shop sont justes toppissimes. De bon conseil et toujours un petit mot pour vous encourager (Leopold et Basile, vous êtes les meilleurs). Le resto est également très chouette avec sa terrasse hyper agréable. Et les pros, c'est le top du top. Rien à redire si ce n'est que dommage qu'il n'y ai que 9 trous.

Conveniently located for Brussels residents, but less so when you’re coming from outside the city. It took me a while to figure out where to park (coming from the east: you have to enter the Terhulpesteensweg where it branches before the FD Rooseveltlaan).

The reception was very friendly, and I was put in a flight with a club member. This was very enjoyable, also because going was very slow: almost two hours for a par 31 course. There’s not much space here – the whole course is within the boundaries of a former horse racetrack (you don’t play the track, for that you can go to Wellington in Ostende). I would consider this more to be a par3+ course – and for that it has a nice variation of length, some undulation, and a bit of tactical challenge coming into play with the doglegs as well.

The appeal of this course is the overall ambiance: the setting with old grandstands and a very charming restaurant, the relaxed atmosphere of many golfers and also people walking in the park. And the very beautiful natural surrounding, like an oasis in the middle of the big city.

A major drawback for me were the plastic mats for teeboxes,9 out of 31+ strokes from plastic is not what golf is about. Drohme is an excellent place for golf learning, practice and recreation, but if you want a proper round of golf, you have to leave the city.
