What an absolutely amazing golf course. The course is fun, very pretty, diverse, challenging and in great condition. This is the type of course you can see yourself playing multiple times because of the variety and rewarding challenge. Every hole is truly unique with its own little challenge. A couple are pure gems, like the par 3 third, playing more than 10 meters downhill. The fifth is great with water all the way down the right side. The par 5 eighth offers a fun chance to go for a well protected green. The ninth is a par 3 with an island green. The par 5 fourteenth is one of the best holes in golf, and the par 5 finisher is one of the best closing holes anywhere. As you can see, love this course. Conditions were spot on, greens were rapid and true. The draught hadn’t touched the fairways at all. No complaints what so ever. I would love to see a Ryder Cup at this venue. Next to the course it isn’t as perfect. The layout of the Great Northern facilities is a bit odd. The clubhouse isn’t near the first tee, but at the range. The hotel is again on a different spot than the restaurant. So it means you’re walking quite a bit between facilities. When you get to the facilities, they are in order. Range offers a grass tee. There’s a small short game area, but the green does reflect the green out on course. There’s only one thing I’ll give a slightly lower mark. That is the restaurant, and especially the service in the restaurant. A lot of staff members weren’t very assertive, so we ordered as many drinks at the counter as we did at our table. Quality of food was alright, but not of the ‘fine dining’ quality they mention on the site. This was in contrast to the great service by the staff around the golf course. Catered to every need, brought out our lunch on course and went round with a drinks buggy. Great!

Treat surroundings, views and condition. The rough was maybe not on par with the very best upon my visit but the general area and impression was great. Incredible place.

There are no superlatives good enough to describe this golfing experience. Literally everything has been thought off. Absolutely amazing. If you plan on playing golf in Denmark, you MUST PLAY this course. If you don’t plan on playing golf in Denmark, change your plans! The Great Northern is a very complete golf destination. It has everything: hotelrooms, wellness spa, extensive practice facilities, incredible clubhouse, challenging Nicklaus design golfcourse, etc. In the area there are plenty of other golf courses to play. Pro: -Large parking with plenty of chargers for electrical cars. -Very nice separate building for the starter with all amenities (lounge, changing room, coffee corner, vending machines with snacks for on the course, large tv-screens with golf channel, etc). -Large pro-shop with a lot of great logo items. -Incredible hospitality. This was seriously one of the most friendly and helpful receptions I have experienced. -Personalized scorecard. -Very extensive practice facilities. If you’re just warming up for your round of golf there is a modest short game area and by the first tee a very large putting green. But if you want a full-on practice session there’s a dedicated training area with everything you can dream about. There is even an indoor putting studio. -Great driving range with grass tee and plenty of targets. As many good quality (Srixon) DR-balls as you want included in the greenfee. -I love the varied lay-out of the 18-hole golf course. Every hole is good. The front nine leads up and down a hill with views on the sea. The back nine also goes up and down the hill and has more water. A lot of the holes are visually impressive and are spiced up with remarkable bunker-complexes (a bunch of bunkers grouped together) that provide extra challenges. Many holes have risk/reward options. For example, hole 13 is a short par 4 that gives you the option to go long on the left with even the chance to reach the (well-protected) green or to take a safer approach and go short on the right. On hole 15 the fairway is split by a large creek so you have to really think about how to approach that green. The 18th hole with its island green is simply amazing (and very difficult). Most greens have multiple levels and are very well-protected. You really have to bring your A-game. I absolutely love the modern design of this course. -I’m very critical when it comes to maintenance, but at the Great Northern it is just perfect! Amazing flat tee-boxes with very short grass. Amazing soft fairways that are smooth like greens on many other golf courses. Wonderful sand of a thicker grain in the bunkers. The bunkers were perfectly raked with the sides smoothed so the balls usually run to the flatter area. The rough was short enough to always find your ball. The greens were a bit slow (normal for the time of the year) but very consistent. Huge congratulations to the greenkeepers! I also noticed the robotic golf course mowers on every hole. Wonderful how the club is using modern technology. -Very peaceful surroundings. No noise. Nature. Great views. -Several comfortable toilets on the golf course. -Water bottle refill or several places on the golf course. -It’s in the details. Even the rain drains have the beautiful Great Northern logo. -Stunning clubhouse. Very impressive design with its remarkable roof. -Comfortable luxury locker rooms. -Great terrace with comfortable lounge chairs and view on the golf course. -I love the location on the hotel rooms. They are more like studios that are built into a hill with view on the golf course. -Amazing spa & wellness facilities. -Even thought the prices are quite high, you get a lot of value for your money. I think the greenfee is well worth it and money well spent! Con: There seriously are no cons about the Great Northern. Perhaps for a club with this image and for the price of this greenfee, I had expected a small tee-gift. Like a logo pitchmark-repair-tool or a bagtag or something like that. That would be the cherry on the cake.

Great Northern is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful golf courses I’ve ever played. We played in late September, and while there were quite a few divots, overall course conditions were very good. The design is both stunning and demanding. With plenty of elevation changes, water in play, and its proximity to the sea, it’s not for the faint-hearted, especially when the wind picks up, as it did for us. That said, every hole is thoughtfully laid out and visually impressive. A small note: the distance between parking, the pro shop, the restaurant, and the first tee is significant. If you want to warm up properly, plan for a bit of extra time. There was also some construction around the practice area and parking, but that’s temporary and understandable. All in all, Great Northern easily ranks among the top courses in Europe, not just for its design, but for the entire experience.
