Newcastle West Golf Club

Course is decent condition, green speeds are a bit inconsistent. Some in better shape than others. Whole experience tainted by terrible service though. Reserved a cart to drive around with our trolley bags. Arrived to find they were cheaper battery powered carts. We were assured the carr was fully charged. On the 11th hole the cart was slowing and died on the 13th. Called the club from the course and was told to just leave it there and walk. Had to carry heavy trolley bags the rest of the course. To make matters worse, a club rep eventually came out on 17th tee in a buggy and asked us if the cart died and where was it, and just drove away to the cart. Did not bring us a replacement buggy or even offer a refund. Decent course but plenty of decent courses out there that actually serve customers. Won’t be going back.

It was a beautiful sunny day when I played this course. There weren't many people playing. Reception was friendly. The course is relatively short and fairly easy to play, not so many challenging shots. Fairway and greens in good condition, rough was very high at some places. Signboards at the teeboxes have minimal information and in yards only. Couldn't use the restaurant because there was no electricity that day.

Newcastle West Golf Club is what you would call a hidden gem. New driving range, practice facilities and top of the range swing studio are massive welcome additions. The course is kept in superb order and will be on junior/senior cup rotations pretty soon if they keep on this upward trend. Just fifteen minutes from the main road this lovely estate sweeps through forestry, rolling hills and is a joy to play on. This is a course to stick on your rota of a must play. A jewel in the rough, get to Newcastle West.
