Cuddington Golf Club
About Cuddington Golf Club
Established in 1929 on 166 acres of Surrey downland, Cuddington has everything a golfer could wish for and more. Easily accessed from the M25 and A217, this fabulous Member’s club is deceptively close to the centre of London but still manages to have the feel of somewhere altogether more remote and tranquil. The course was designed by the great Harry Colt and it is no exaggeration to call it an absolute delight from start to finish. Easy walking and a great challenge for all players, each hole on the downland layout has been constructed to have its own individual character. What’s more, the chalk subsoil and USGA specification greens ensure that the course dries out quickly in wet weather, meaning it plays on main tees and greens all year round.

Was invited to play this Harry Colt course. When entering the grounds it appeared as though the holes would be very similar with a lot of room on and off the fairways. But looks can be deceiving it turned out. The holes were quite different and although no stress off the tee, strategically placed shots were needed to get close to your hcp. Maintenance was excellent and greens fast but true. This is a course not many will play when visiting Surrey, but I do recommend giving this a try. Colt design and an affordable greenfee make this a solid choice for a fun round of golf.

Cuddington is a Harry Colt designed course that is often overlooked in the Trophy Courses studded county of Surrey. Playing another Colt classic, St. George's Hill in the AM before teeing off at Cuddington proved that the same designer can make two optically completely different courses. Cuddington is wide open with a couple of trees, hardly any heather and strategic bunkering.
The course starts with 2 consecutive par 5's and a long par 4 with 1516 yards the longest course-start in the UK. As noted earlier the course looks not really thrilling but when you play it you realise that it is great fun to play. The bunkers are placed well the greens need to be approached from the right angle and you definitely realise that the course is designed by one of the best architects the world has ever seen.
When we were finished the clubhouse was almost closed so we went to Epsom and had a perfect fish and chips at the Duke of Wellington pub, I can definitely recommend it.
