Montrose is one of the oldest courses in the world, and a true links experience. Unfortunately, we played under sea fog, which blocked out some of the views. The course is a lot of fun and has some great holes. My favourite is definitely the par-4 2nd, which has a tee shot over the beach. The sand is eroding, so the tee will likely have to be moved inland soon... A very memorable place to play.

This is an excellent and historic links course. We were looked after very well by Sean in the pro shop who gave us a great welcome and offered to change our start time to avoid some bad weather. The condition of the course was very good with hard and fast greens and all the tees had been prepared well. The first set of 6 holes have great sea views and the closing 17 and 18 are extremely strong. Whilst this isn't Trump Aberdeen, it is still a great test of the game and the course has real integrity. And it's only £100 a round in peak.

We had lunch in the clubhouse beforehand,. Great fish and chips!

Broomfield Course

Course flag18 holes

The Broomfield Course is ideal for juniors, families and those wishing to ‘get their eye in’ before taking on the 1562 Course. Being relatively flat, the Broomfield can be somewhat deceptive as it still requires a high degree of accuracy from the tees to small greens. Many visitors play the Broomfield in the morning before a hearty clubhouse lunch in preparation for the 1562 Course in the afternoon.

The 1562 Course is challenge for any golfer. This is a traditional Scottish links course with springy turf that grows only close to the sea, dunes, gorse, deep bunkers and tall wavy grass that changes colour and dances in the wind. The holes are laid out in an unusual T-shaped configuration. The front nine plays mainly along the shoreline and offers excellent views across the North Sea.
