About Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club
The first golf shot in the vicinity of Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club in the late 1880s, was played by a retired banker, namely Tom Gilroy, a Scotsman who lived in Mornington House, Coney Hall. His desire for golf was so great that he decided to create a few holes on the land that he owned in the area. He created 4 holes that were located between the south lighthouse, which is east of the existing tenth fairway and the north lighthouse, north of the Maiden Tower. Nothing much happened until March 1909 when another golfing fanatic, a Mr George Daly, organised a meeting of kindred spirits. The meeting was held with a view to forming a club, giving it a name and finishing off Mr Gilroy’s work. The name decided upon was Laytown and Bettystown Golf Club. Visitors are very welcome to play our beautiful Golf Links. We are located only 30 mins from Dublin Airport. Golf clubs, buggies & caddies are available for hire.

What a great experience, this hidden gem, this beautiful links course at the sea. The holes are challenging, stretching along the coast. It is not easy to reach the well protected greens. Maintenance is very good. Staff without any exception making us feel very welcome. One small remark is guidance on the course, not always easy to find out where the next shot should be or where the next hole is.
Sure worthwhile playing again during another SingleGolfers. nl trip.

What a brilliant golf course! Played it for the first time on a sunny afternoon with lots of wind. We played without a strokesaver or birdiebook, so we encountered a few surprises. Tee boxes, fairways and greens, all in great conditions.

Laytown & Bettystown
Laytown & Bettystown golf links is in existence for over 100 years. Historical records account for the fact that both W.C. Pickeman of Portmarnock fame and Cecil Barcroft the designer of courses such as Carlow, The Castle and Skerries, had a hand in the creation of Laytown & Bettystown golf links. In the intervening years, subsequent professionals have made some changes to the design of the golf links. As it stands today, Laytown & Bettystown golf course is an excellent example of traditional links golf in Ireland.
