About Lahinch Golf Club

Lahinch Golf Club was founded in 1892 when a number of officers from the Black Watch Regiment of the British Army went to the west coast of Clare in search of sand dunes that would be suitable for the development of a golf course. The original course had nine holes on each side of the Liscannor Road. In 1926 the services of world renowned golf course architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie were sought and plans for a new 18 hole course were agreed. The original goats at Lahinch were owned by an old Lahinch caddie, Tommy Walsh, who lived close to the old 3rd tee. The goats were a great guide to the weather at Lahinch. If they were seen hovering around the clubhouse the weather prospects were not good. But once the goats made their way out to the outer regions of the sand hills, then weather prospects were good.

Old Course 1/2
Holes: 18
The Old Course layout is a classic 'out and back', starting and ending in the town. The course is a slightly hilly, links course with a few holes unchanged since its original design in 1892. One unusual feature of the Old Course is the presence of goats which are allowed to roam freely across the course. They were originally owned by a caddie who l

Castle Course 2/2
Holes: 18
The Castle Course is the little brother of the Old Course at Lahinch Golf Club and was created in the mid 1970s on the opposite side of the road to the Old Course. It's a links style course and more forgiving and less undulated as the Old Course. The picturesque Dough Castle (1306) serves as a stunning backdrop to the 7th hole on the Castle Course,

What's good? I'm bias, it's my home course, however Lahinch's world ranking (Old Course) is 36th so I may not be the only bias person after playing it! The castle course is for the junior and senior members, i've marked it 6/10, it's a nice run around if your looking to see where your game is at and to get rid of any cobwebs. The Old Course is where it is at. If you want …

When you park your car at Lahinch Golf Club and walk towards the clubhouse, you are greated by a goat statue. The goats at Lahinch Golf Club are quite famous and they are an old school weather channel. When they are close to the clubhouse, the weather is going to be bad soon. When they are way out somewhere on the course, the weather should be pleasant. On the beautiful d…

Since I first noticed this course existed that I wanted to play it. Reallity overcame the expectatives. Wild links set in a high dunes area, tough course specially if you play in that irish weather as we did, strong wind and some showers. Some gorgeous holes with great views. A top course.
